#UConn FB coach Paul Pasqualoni intrigued to see talented freshman class in action
http://runwayramblings.blogspot.com/2013/07/pasqualoni-talking-up-freshmen.html

"I don’t care if they are freshmen or if they are seniors, the best guys are going to be on the travel squad," Pasqualoni said. "E.J. Norris was one of our better defensive ends and he was on the travel squad. He is another guy who was hurt and now he is back (elbow). I like the group, I like the size of them. I am kind of a (prototype) guy, a guy like Cole Ormsby from Windsor, this guy is a big guy. You shake this guy’s hand and you can’t even find your hand. You like guys like that, you really do. If one these guys can help us in some way, shape or form to create depth, competitiveness or go in on third down, play on first or second down we are going to use them.."

also from this article:

A couple of other things from Pasqualoni I thought was worth passing on was when he spoke about the athleticism of a couple of defensive backs.

He said that cornerback Byron Jones has one of the best vertical leaps of any player he has coached as it is in excess of 40 inches, He said the only player he could think of with a better vertical was Rob Moore, a receiver he coached at Syracuse and a player who had three 1,000-yard receiving seasons in his 10 years in the NFL.

Then there is this nugget on redshirt freshman Obi Melifonwu.
"Obi Melifonwu is one of the best athletes on the team and he might be one of the best athletes in this league," Pasqualoni said. "He's 6-4 he can run, he can jump, he can cover ground."

I'm intrigued about my upcoming threesome with Jessica Alba and Kate Upton.

I'll believe PP is going to utilize freshmen when I see it.

The proof, mostly, is anecdotal to this point but I'm a believer in P's recruiting. I think we are stocking up on depth like never before.
Hopefully....and soon it will be game day...time to sharpen that game day coaching a bit.

I think Weist can make a big difference in this area, he can for instance call for the victory formation when the clock is running out, or (one would think) call for time outs at appropriate times when we have the ball.

Another little anecdote/tidbit from last night- Heard that the incoming freshmen are eating up the playbook like never before. Apparently it took last years class a little more time to get comfortable with it. Chalk that up to whatever you will.

I agree, he's a manchild, he looks like he is 25, a football version of Andre Drummond.

I just looked up his profile....he doesn't turn 18 until late October!

By the way....don't look at roster birthdates unless you want to feel old. He was born October 20, 1995. I graduated from UConn in 1986. But....I still have my original hips....so there is that.

P. always talks a good game. Then he nails the back ups to the bench even when the starters don't perform.
