The mention Of Hofstra's Stadium evoked a thought. The Jets paid for it when they used to do training camp there. Then Hofstra drops football. It's a shame. Think that Jeff Hathaway is lobbying in the background to bring the sport back at the varsity level a la U New Haven? I won't hold my breath.

Watched Lagow play the entire first half of the N. TX High School All Star game tonight. He played well and was totally in command when he was on the field. I liked the way he went through his evolutions on several pass plays and threw to his #2 or #3 receiver after rolling out and scrambling around a couple times, too. He made a bunch of different throws (touch, rolling left & throwing right across his body, deep sideline, hitch, slant, and from the shotgun and under center. He also looked really good on one particular option play that the RB broke for a 35 yd TD. I'm guessing he had over 150 yds passing and no interceptions. His team went into the half with a 21-0 lead. I'm really looking forward to watching this guy develop and play as a Husky.

Is it me, or does it sound like the good coach is almost implying that Uconn is beneath Lagows talent level, like he should do had bigger opportunities? Maybe it's nothing, but if you switch "and" for "but" in that statement I think the whole premise of the statement changes.

No, you're absolutely right. Here's to hoping that Coach Penrod eats his words very soon...

I mean... I sat and read it a couple of times and said to myself "this is how I'm reading this, could this be the intent?" Glad you read it the same way, bcuz my first response was what a "D*ck" comment. At the end of the day, where coaches lose focus on sometimes is that for the HS level it is a sense of "bragging opportunity " for them if they can list a whole chain of "Big Time" programs that they have sent kids to such as UT , ND, USC etc..... But what is not always considered is whether or not they played! Look at Shoemate for example, that kid was a STUD recruit out of HS but couldn't really get on the field consistently which led to his transfer. At the end of the day, the school is only part of the equation IMO, you also want to get as much playing time as possible as well. I think kids lose focus here often and end up losing a year or two of eligibility at bigger schools when they could go to a competitive school and break the lineup much sooner. I feel this could be the case for Lagow here. We all know that he wanted that offer from TT and TCU, but if he settled for us and then throws up the numbers we all think he's capable of throwing up for Uconn.... Well BOTH parties win there.... The Lagows and the Uconn die hards.

I agree with your assessment that HS coaches are always looking for "trophy case" programs to come in for their students. It makes them look like they are "top-quality" coaches, regardless of whether they are or aren't. What this clown forgot to think about is the fact that Lagow WANTED to be here! If you really care for the kid at all, I don't care if he was going to D-III, you don't say some $#it like that. Period.

As if we haven't sent any players to play on Sundays!!!....it just shows a lack of knowledge from someone trying to pretend to be "in-the-know"...

Not sure that was the intent but okay... I don't parse each word and try to assign motive to twitter tweets. Too easy to read to0 much into these things.

FWIW - He's was one of the Coaches on the High School All Star team (Tyler Texas RB coach)- he was not RL's High School Coach.

Careful of your words HFD. In this crazy cyber world your statement can easily be misenterpeted.
Obama could be listening!! Kidding, of course, but it's a strange world today. You don't need unwanted trouble.

Dan, I would offer the same advice. There are people being charged with "cyber threatening." It's an upside-down world when a harmless joke can be misinterpreted, but it's happening.

Some good NYC PR:

City Football Stars Tackle Charity Game Before Heading to UConn Together

http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/201...le-charity-game-before-heading-uconn-together

>>Just six days after the Empire Challenge, the trio leaves for Connecticut, joining Wilbert Lee from Boys & Girls and former St. Joseph by the Sea standout Lyle McCombs as New York City football players on the Huskies roster.

“I don’t have that much time left here. It’s crazy,” Stapleton said. “I’ve been in school here for so many years, but now I have to leave. It’s a crazy feeling but I know I’m ready. It’s another chapter of my life I have to accomplish and take hold of.”

Could they be the start of a pipeline to UConn?

For years Syracuse had a firm grip on the five boroughs, but that is now up for grabs after Orange coach Doug Marrone left to become the Buffalo Bills head coach, taking lead New York City recruiter John Anselmo with him.
“I don’t see why not,” said New York City coach Danny Landberg, who guided Erasmus Hall to the PSAL Championship Division title in December.

“[UConn assistant coach] Jon Wholley does a great job coming in and making his relationship strong with us.”<<

Special night for UConn commit

http://runwayramblings.blogspot.com/2013/06/special-night-for-uconn-commit.html

>>Holines originally committed to UMass but once he saw the UConn facilities and was offered a scholarship he made the decision to decommit from UMass and become a Husky. "Once I saw the facility I feel in love with that and I felt that was probably the way to get me out and go to the next level," Holines said

"We have some good defensive players coming in, good quarterbacks and hopefully we can get some good recruits in next year so hopefully we can win the (American Athletic) conference championship. I think this group, with a couple of years together can by junior year, sophomore year we can make some things happen."<<
