Once again the article by Borges is presuming they are going with a rolling average of past years. They won't be able to do that. New penalties can't be retroactive.

All we know is they aren't voting on these penalties beginning this year. If they vote on new penalties they will start next season and the scoring will begin at the same time.

Meanwhile, the notoriety of the school and the program is bringing UConn to the forefront on these issues and forcing the school to make statements.

The most important things are UConn is addressing the problem and UConn won't miss post seasons because of APR problems.

Noooooooo, the fact that the rate is a complete friggin' joke is "forcing" the school to make statements.

I'm not sure that the above is correct. One measure being voted on would implement immediate penalties and teams could be banned for the 2012 tournament. That is according to the NCAA President.

"Teams could be banned from participating in this year's March Madness if they don't reach a new academic threshold, and that threshold could be determined as soon as Friday. . . . Emmert said if approved, one proposal would immediately implement a baseline acceptable Academic Progress Rate (APR) requirement for postseason play of 900, which would include the 2012 NCAA men's basketball tournament. Emmert also said the APR requirement would be raised to 930 in 24 months, if the proposal is approved. These APRs were calculated to target a 50% graduation rate."

We'll have to see how this plays out.

Your story is a day old. The updated story - stating that the postseason bans absolutely will not be in play in 2012 - is what this thread is referencing.

This is why the NCAA is a joke. All they do is try to punish schools for APR , recruiting ,ect but can not do a damn thing about all this re- alignment Bull$h!t.
