UConn breaks record for research funding with $375M in fiscal '21

-> Funding for research at the University of Connecticut reached record levels last fiscal year, with more than $375 million in new awards.

It was the first time Connecticut's flagship university broke the $300-million mark for research funding in a year, according to UConn. Grants went to researchers at UConn's principal campus in Storrs, UConn Health, and the university's four regional campuses. <-

-> UConn ranked 84th nationally in research and development expenditures in the 2019 fiscal year with about $285 million, according to data from the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics.

That’s good for the highest ranking among other public universities in New England, but lags behind the likes of Boston University ($534 million) and some other large state schools, including the University of Georgia ($477 million) and Rutgers University — New Brunswick ($657 million). <-

Hopefully they can keep it going. I continue to think that relief from Connecticut minimum wage laws for federally funded research would be a net plus for the state. A good research program will help with the universities academic reputation in the support increased admissions. The research project themselves create jobs and being a research hub is an economic engine for the state, which is desperately needed.
