follow up - the coach told us that there are no sports on the chopping block, but that budgets for the "Olympic" sports have already been tightened by up to 50% (a lot of which is in reduced travel costs b/c of the move back to the Big East, and some by charging all scholarships at the in-state rate), and that is still ongoing. Title IX is a huge issue. It was also noted that for some of the Olympic sports that have limited scholarship (mostly men's), the programs actually "profit," in that if the costs of attendance for the non-scholarship athletes are considered revenue, they do not "lose" money. Specifically told we were not being asked to open our checkbooks at this time (that may come down the road), but to brainstorm ways to raise money, and reach out to others (former teammates) and get non-donors to start contributing
Benedict also mentioned that having all scholarships be in state rates. That doesn’t actually save any money though right? Isn’t that practically like cooking the books?

It is totally weird how small time UConn fans are in their world views. They see UConn as a modest regional school like St Johns or Providence when it is a major national university. Sad really
Holy inferiority complex, Batman!

Numbers are 2 years old but $60M seems about right looking at these numbers

Keep in mind that the numbers listed are revenue numbers, not net numbers. Also, we have no idea what goes into those numbers. For example, Rutgers earnings and expense numbers match to the penny. That’s a pretty good indication that they are including a subsidy in their revenue number. Finally, this list is only P5 schools. I don’t know if they’re including a media money allocation and the totals.

Of course the list is only P5 schools and only revenue, the discussion was about the average revenue for a P5 school. Not trying to make any broader point here other than providing some numbers for the claim that the average P5 school generates $60M in revenue

Understood, but I think somewhere above someone said the average football school makes $60 million and we are running at a loss. That’s comparing their revenue number against our net number.

Friend of mine who is pretty well-connected with the track program says they're also holding a fundraising campaign. Says it's been going on for 6 days they've already got $1.5m pledged across 5 years.

Alternate access link here

>>All options, best as I understand, include cutting at least four sports, asking the university to assign a reduced price tag to scholarships, taking measures to reduce operating expenses and perhaps riding recent fundraising success to the preservation of some sports that otherwise would have been axed.<<
