One thing to remember, there are eyeballs in metro NYC and western Mass. as well as Rhode Island, they are part of the UConn fan base too

Point remains - they know that - and the math still doesn't work because we aren't a real football school in terms of audience. Let's not think for a second that the Rutgers decision was made on quality.

It's been a while since I've looked but I think there's something like 11 million people within 125 miles of Storrs.

How does Bowl selection even happen? Are they made to be like big name WWE matchups? It seems like the scriptwriters really want us to lose
Amore asks Mora about what he considers a “good bowl” for UConn @ 5:10.

Crazy list -- only opponent that repeats is Bowling Green!

In other words, nobody has a clue.

Boca seems to be in the lead in terms of location. Lots of variation in opponents. Looks like Texas Tech doesn’t want to play us. Scared??

It's awesome that I am finding solace for my UConn hoops woes on the UConn football page. I am enjoying the season and am psyched for the UMass game and whatever comes next. Let's go!

-> What would constitute a “good bowl game” for UConn in 2024? A good playing date? A brand-name opponent? Balmy weather?

“That’s a really hard question, because the bowls are so different than when I was growing up,” Mora said. “We all knew the pecking order of bowls. Now, they have all these different names. I don’t even know beside the five kind of big ones, where they rank. I would love to play a prominent opponent we can measure ourselves against. That’d be great.”<-

-> “I hope it’s somewhere warm,” linebacker Jayden McDonald said. “(But) any time you get to play and compete in an extra game, that’s always a bonus. I’m very competitive and I want to play against the best team we possibly can, that’s why I think handling business (Saturday) will set us up for a challenge like that, but we’ve got to take it one week at a time.” <-

-> “Getting an opportunity just to go out one last time with the team we have here,” receiver Skyler Bell said. “We have a lot of guys on this team that might be playing their last game in a UConn uniform, their last game in a football uniform, period. You can feel it with the guys in the locker room, we care about one another, we lay it on the line for one another, I don’t think you’re going to see too many guys opt out. We’ve put in a lot of work together, so seeing it through to the end is going to be big for this group.” <-

30th TV market in the country… sandwiched between #1 and #8. It’s plenty good.

If it was good enough it would be settled already. If people think this has anything to do with anything other than advertising math I’m not sure what to say.

If you want to improve you have to play good competition. I am not looking for meaningless warm and fuzzies. Don't have a need for them. Playing the long game.
The long game is that in a year no one will remember who we played in a bowl game but everyone will see a 9-4 record versus an 8-5 record next to our name.

While we should not count on it, it is not out of the question that one or more teams turns down a bowl bid. Many of them will lose multiple players to the draft, transfer portal and simply quitting after the regular season, and some may not want to bother with a meaningless bowl game.

Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't it just the covid year where teams were opting out? I don't remember any opt outs since.

Occasionally teams will opt out. Especially if they are changing coaches

is that the math that says there's more participants than bowl slots and that almost all are contracted out in some way?
The post I read said 77 eligible teams for 82 spots.

That would be Miami Beach for me and about an hour drive the day of the game.
Or relax and take take the Brightline to Boca (50+ mins) about 1.5 miles from the stadium. I think a cab from there. Haven't heard about shuttles from that station. Tri-rail takes longer and further away but there may be a shuttle during certain hours. Totally timed our trip wrong we'll be there this week early next.
