In his weekly interview with Chris Jones (they have missed a few weeks) Coach Penders said that Sam Nepiarsky will get the start against Boston College.

I've always been an advocate for Nepiarsky and he really came through today. Good to see.

Yes, an excellent 5 innings for him today. I would expect Nepiarsky will get one of the midweek starts next weekend.

CJ Dandeneau came in to relieve Nepiarsky in the bottom of the 6th, and fired off a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. Dandeneau is definitely making a bid for more innings out of the pen.

Dandeneau gets another 1-2-3 inning in the 7th. Devin Over in to pitch the 8th.

Over loads bases w/ two outs (assisted by misplayed wind blown pop-up by Hill) - Doug Domnarski coming in.

4 pitch strikeout for Polonia gets UConn out of the 8th inning with a 4-3 lead.

I can't hear the game on my work computer so I'm sweating it out via this thread.

After the disastrous series vs. a very beatable UC Santa Barbara team, UConn needs all the quality road wins it can get. This hardly makes up for some of the losses we've had, but a modest 3 game winning streak is a start I suppose...hold on here please.

A nice win for a variety of reasons. Getting a road win over a top 100 RPI team is something that always has good value to it.

Sam Nepiarsky getting his first start as a Husky and going 5 scoreless innings is something that could prove big, as UConn's starting pitching after Kay and Cate has been rather shoddy. I would expect that after Nepiarsky's performance that he will get another chance to start next Tuesday or Wednesday, and should he put together another solid mound job, that would go a long way in helping to solve UConn's starting pitching woes.

I get a sense from listening to Chris Jones that Coach Penders is on the lookout for gaining confidence in dependable bullpen arms in tight situations. I suspect CJ Dandeneau did himself a world of good in Penders eyes in pitching his two perfect innings while protecting a four run lead in the later stages of today's game. I'm sure we will see him audition for pitching in more tight situations down the line.

And finally, while the offense started slow, the Huskies did end up scoring 9 runs today.
