UConn/Baylor Game Cancelled

Pro football is employing an inexcusable “next man up” mentality when it comes to positive Covid cases.

Places of employment have done it too.This whole shut it down if some one tests positive is just not a feasible situation. Have some plan reschedule the game next week if you have to. Need to expect and react to positive tests not run away and hide from it.

I dont see the Cleveland Browns playoff game being cancelled (so far), with their HC having Covid.

To them, the money the NFL makes is worth that risk. Women's basketball don't make enough money to even begin to consider risks.

My point being that she spent Christmas AT HOME with family members. This is what our girls would have done. If Kim was exposed by family a family member(s), so may have one or more of our players.

Not throwing shade on Kim here. She did nothing wrong. Most of us spent Christmas with our close families, I did.

I'm simply saying that it happened to Kim. It can happen to anyone. By remaining on campus and in a relative "bubble", our girls avoided the possibility of being exposed by a random family member (not knowing they were carrying the virus) during family gatherings at home and other family member's homes.

I spent Christmas and New Years at home with my wife. We FaceTimed everyone else. I would much rather have spent the holidays with my son and his family, or my brother and his family, but missing one holiday season with family pales in comparison to the possibility of spreading this terrible virus.

I moved to Alaska to teach young people in a Native village. My Mom is 92 and I haven't been able to get to see her since July 2019, because of this pandemic. My sister suggested I not come to the lower 48 because of the risk to her and to Mom.
Everybody that is responding responsibly to the situation has a story like ours.

What happens if UConn loses the game to SC - does that knock them from a 1-seed due to very weak schedule? I think its imperative for UConn to schedule more games with ranked teams now!

I see a lot of coaches giving the okay for the athletes to go see their families. It certainly is a risk going home as you just don't know what goes on when they are away. At the same time during this pandemic, I know mental health is a major issue and a lot of these kids have been restricted already a ton and haven't seen their families in a while. LSU recently had an athlete try to commit suicide due to lack of social contact from others due to this virus and being away from people. Its a very sad thing.

With that said, the players seemed to do okay for Baylor after going home. The issue was Kim getting exposed and then tested positive much later after having multiple negative and no symptoms at the time she came back. Its very unfortunate but this won't be the last time something happens like this this season.

I get that you're Kim's biggest cheerleader, but please don't minimize her irresponsible behavior.

Why the point about "much later"? It's within the normal incubation period between exposure and positivity. Previous negative tests and the absence of symptoms mean diddly squat at that point, and she's smart enough to know that.

It's "unfortunate" in the sense that willfully reckless behavior resulting in an accident is unfortunate.

I believe that if UConn does not play a another game out of Conference and does go undefeated in the Big East they will still end up one of the #1 seeds. COVID is the one that is doing it and I don't think the NCAA would end up punishing UConn because they didn't happen. They were scheduled and it's no ones fault that they had to be cancelled. I would love to see Louisville and UConn play, but I don't see it happening. Jeff has decided to play powder puffs so he can get his team up to speed for the ACC run and then the NCAA's if it happens.

Agreed. I think UCONN is safe unless they have a bad loss along the way. At the end of the day seeding isn't going to matter with the tournament likely being held in one location, assuming we still get a normal tournament. If they follow S-curve, the difference between being #4 or #5 is negligible with no crowds and everyone playing in the same location. I dont see any way UCONN drops lower than 5th if they win out, even if they don't play SC.

Send a email to Baylor’s medical staff. that’s a reasonable argument and it’s weird that the Baylor medical staff would clear her to go back to see her team.

I don't know about that Moose. We get sentimental around the holidays, and want to cleave to our family members, some of whom we haven't seen since last Christmas. Agree that because of her position and added responsibility to the team, she should have exercised EXTREME caution.

Did you see on the local news all of the folks that threw caution to the wind, and got on an airplane for points all over the world? You know some of them returned carrying the virus, but they figured they were safe. Nothing was going to happen to them. Crap happens!!!

Although, I do like Geno’s analogy to Casablanca, where he indicated that with all the cancelled OOC games this season, the NCAA Selection Committee will simply, “Round up the usual suspects.”

Last year, seeding mattered alot more because we were clearly weaker than SC, OR and Baylor and we were trying to squeeze into the 4/5 spot to avoid them. Now I think we are competitive with anyone. Bring anyone on in any order.

If 1 person or player test positive then they should sit out but if the rest of team is negative then play. I hate to say this, but Louisville doesn’t need UConn right now. Louisville will get solid competition in the ACC, and has a very good chance to run the table. NC St is the only real challenge on the schedule, and I honestly don’t think the Wolfpack is up to it.

So worst case Louisville heads into the tournament, assuming we have one, as the #2 overall seed, and maybe #1 if someone in the Pac12 knocks off Stanford.

Yes it does. However as you stated we all have family that we want to be with. I have one of my closest relatives an aunt 99 years old with failing health she will be 100 in March and can't understand why I have not been to see her since last January. Until otherwise I am a 2 time cancer survivor and can't jeopardize my health and refuse to jeopardize her health either. It sucks, but we should do the right thing. I'm done I have already said too much, you know how I feel. Stay safe!

Ditto. Original plans to fly to a Thanksgiving with my son and Daughter-in-Law (1000 miles distant) were postponed to Christmas-time. That plan was scrapped in favor of driving right through 15 hours after being tested and isolating. That too had to be cancelled due to unprecedented surge. On the heels of other COVID-caused life impacts, and the general tone of the nation right now, sadness bordering on depression was the result.

I ended up buying video conference web cams (surprisingly cheap) and my son and I set things up so that our TVs appeared to be like windows between their dinner table and ours. Our other set of kids (500 miles in the opposite direction) Zoomed in numerous times also. We dined, had activities like cooking, movie watching, game playing and hours of conversation all done virtually together with full voice and picture. We got through it and made the best of a bad situation.

I kept thinking about what my parents went through in their lives. If they got through the Great Depression and WWII (and without the tech we have to keep connected), I thought, we should be able to get through this easy. Its not always fun, but you do what needs to be done to protect yourself, your family, and your fellow citizens.

Well State has their second best player back now (Boyd) who didn't play in that game. She also didn't play in the game vs Lesser Carolina. As an aside.... she won the ACC Player of the Week for her play last week.

Just curious - why the "dirty birds"?

We long-time Louisville fans are used to getting that from a some of the folks who follow that team 90 miles east of here and bleed blue. Are you perchance a closet Wildcat fan?

And to get back on topic, no way do I underestimate NC State. I'd make the game a tossup. Cunane is the real deal, has had lots of success against us, and has a pretty darn good supporting cast.

I think your "Polly- Annish" attitude is just tone deaf. People are dying. What do they say, one person dies of Covid every 33 seconds. I'm 63, an ex-athlete with a paunch like Geno's. I'm scared to death of getting that virus.
For this idea to work safely and effectively, EVERYONE has to be "on-board" and willing to follow all the scientifically recommended protocols 100%/to the best of your ability.

Well, obviously, the “small stuff” to which I alluded, has to do with losing a game. Yes, Covid is deadly serious, but a lot of otherwise conscientious people were faced with tough personal decisions around the holidays.
