OT: UConn basketball on TV today...guy-side

We are in a lengthy hiatus over here but the men are in the islands for
a 3 day tourney. They are 4-0..CupCake City so far....but top 25 so far also.

Auburn [3-0] at 2:30 on espn today.
Win and probably Michigan State on Thursday.
Win that and probably top 10 Baylor on Friday.

2-1...probably keeps their spot in the top 25.
3-0...yikes!...maybe top 10.
1-2...drop out of top 25.
0-3....first 4 were fool's gold.

if we win today we play at noon on Thanksgiving Day.
If we lose today we play around 2:30.

115-109 in double overtime....good guys win!
Tremendously exciting...tremendously ragged.
We could not handle their pressure defense...we hit threes and foul shots.
Lucky to win in some ways...deserved to win in others.

Auburn was ranked 19...we were 22.

Michigan State at noon tomorrow.

The men's board must be in a delightful frenzy.
Sanogo....missed a lot of the inside shots he was making in the first half but hit some clutch
baskets late and clutch free throws near the end....wound up with 30.

He is one BEAST....just a soph. UConn overcame a terrible out of bounds call going to Auburn very late but pulled it out.

Often wasn't pretty but both teams showed a lot of heart.

Go UConn on Turkey Day!

Just to add, sure UCONN should have won in regulation (mental errors) and then again in the 1st OT, but nothing bad came out of that game.

A win against a top 20 team, 49% of FG's, but 58% on 3's. 84% on FT's. Out-rebounded Auburn 48-35. 23 assists on 34 made baskets... Sure 24 TO's, but it was a double OT game. Not great, and certainly things for Hurley to work on, but a really satisfying win.

This Hurley team is really fun to watch. Glad Hurley has UConn MBB trending up. UConn needs the men’s team to be strong.

MSST overcomes 8pt deficit with 5 minutes left to win. Did not look good with forced shots and poor shooting in general.

Poor shooting in the first half...down 32-24. Played solid for most of the second half took a nice lead...did not finish well...offense pretty much a mess the last several possessions. Excuses...or reasons: missing a key player today....kept him out to be super-cautious after fainting spell yesterday/ maybe tired after long tough game Wednesday....very disappointing loss after a nice comeback.

Win tomorrow..still a pretty good trip.

Heads-up: espn2 around 1:30 UConn men vs. Virginia Commonwealth.....should be a competitive game.

BTW: Baylor pulling away from Michigan State late in the championship game....VCU gave Baylor a genuine game in the semis. Baylor [national #6] was pre-tourney fav.

Halftime; VCU 28 UConn 26.

UConn extremely lucky to be down by only 2. Poor shooting combined with raggedy
running the offense. Got 2 gift points in the last 1/10th second with a foul by VCU on a 50 foot heave.
VCU can't shoot either but they run a much better half-court offense so far.

Good guys win 70-63 in OT.
Ugly game thruout...Cole [guard] big game in points. They do NOT
handle defensive pressure well. Could gave won all 3 games here or lost all 3.

Went 2-1. Will stay in top 25 but the TOs and shooting woes need work.
Cole seems to be guts of the team...very reliant on him in terms of ball-handling...need some help.
