Great follow for UConn baseball fans. Some interesting tidbits below from his convo w/ HC Tyler Phommachanh. Read bottom up for time chronology:

That's it for now if you want to hear more of the specifics and much more from Coach Penders tune in on Friday at 3:30 on whus.

Can play any of infield positions except 1st and may even be an option in the outfield. Much to be decided at this point where we see him

Freshamn Bryan Daniello has recovered from hamstring injury and has shown a good bat and speed since he has come onto campus.

JonesCcj 11:53am via Twitter for Android
All in all Coach really likes the 4 outfielders he has in Testani, Paul, Ferriter and Yavarone.

JonesCcj 11:51am via Twitter for Android
Stanley has range and shown good bat as well. Also have options with stanley a lefty and Testani a righty at the plate

JonesCcj 11:50am via Twitter for Android
Stanley Paul and John Testani are two options out in right field. Testani was shown range and arm strength since his move from 3rd base.

JonesCcj 11:48am via Twitter for Android
Coach hasn't made any lineup decisions except LJ as 3 or 4 hitter and Ferriter at top of the lineup otherwise very up in the air.

JonesCcj 11:44am via Twitter for Android
Freshman Christian Coletti and Ryan Radue are two freshman that could have big impact out of the pen. Coletti very polished out of hs

Veteran Dan Feehan will be in usual setup role with Jolin also a late inning option who will come into big time situations.

JonesCcj 11:43am via Twitter for Android
Bullpen wise don't have as much depth as used to over last few years but got some quality arms. Ryan Moore is front runner to be closer

JonesCcj 11:42am via Twitter for Android
Butler will most likely start in pen and be used once schedule kicks up a gear with more than 3 games a week.

JonesCcj 11:41am via Twitter for Android
With 3 game weekends for first few 4 weeks of season only need 3 starters. Seems Tabakman and Ward are battling for 3rd spot.

JonesCcj 11:39am via Twitter for Android
Pitching staff seems to be at 5 guys right now for starters. Marzi, Cross, Tabakman, Ward and Butler.

JonesCcj 11:38am via Twitter for Android
Coach also talked about Tom Verdi. Impressed with leadership helping out the younger guys. Expects big things from Verdi on the field too

JonesCcj 11:34am via Twitter for Android
Coach gave him exceptional praise by saying he has a chance to be similiar to mike nemeth.

JonesCcj 11:33am via Twitter for Android
Melley was catcher in high school and has worked really hard at 1b already has shown great improvement but still has work to be done

JonesCcj 11:32am via Twitter for Android
Freshman Bobby Melleys bat really has impressed coaching staff and will be hard to keep him out of lineup. Could see him at 1b or dh

JonesCcj 11:30am via Twitter for Android
Connor David is currently recovering from a concussion but before injury was looking solid behind the plate.

JonesCcj 11:30am via Twitter for Android
Catching race has heated up since end of winter break. Connor David and Max Mcdowell have both impressed coach.

JonesCcj 11:28am via Twitter for Android
Coach said freshman Vinny Siena is the front runner for 3rd base. Real good bat, real mature approach to his game and is good defensively

Was also surprised to see that Ward was battling for 3rd spot. Hoping Ryan Moore can do the job for us as the closer.

Ward was injured at mid season last year. To that point he was having a very good year. I'm not sure what the injury was. He was originally scheduled to pitch in the Cape league, but due to the injury he was held back. He's probably struggling to get back into form.
With Marzi, Cross, Tabakman, Ward & Butler we have an experienced starting rotation. No superstars, but a solid rotation. My guess is all, but Butler will return next year. Several outstanding pitchers from this years HS graduating class will join them, along with a pretty good frosh class of pitchers already enrolled.
Future looks bright.
