I find Dominic Freeberger to be the most intriguing of the position player transfers coming into the program, he also seems capable of playing all over the place in the field. It will be interesting to see how he fits in.

Outfielder Zaid Walker, a draftee out of high school, didn’t reach his full potential in four seasons at Michigan State, but he is bursting with raw talent. He’s a good runner with a strong arm made for right field, and his best season at the plate was in 2021, when he hit .308. On the mound, righthander Jake Bloss from Lafayette had a 3.57 ERA in 58 innings last season. His fastball is a low-90s pitch, but it touched 100 mph this summer. Third baseman Marco Castillo from Division III Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) provides offensive potential after hitting .325/.421/.437 last season. <-

Stephen Quigley's brother Michael is also a transfer into UConn baseball from UMass Lowell, but did not get mention in the above article. Michael Quigley did get named to the Futures League All Star Game, which is a nice achievement. Of course, Michael Quigley is going to be a Junior this year for UConn, and the Futures League is more or less an entry level summer collegiate league in this region, so pitching for UConn is bit of a jump from that league over the summer.

That SOS is needed for UConn as well. It is a no brainer for both programs to play yearly.

Rutgers is probably better than some teams that can be scheduled in terms of RPI but they haven't been a perennially strong team for a while. I know the RPI was very strong last year but that hasn't always been the case recently:

2022 - RPI 43; 44-15
2021 - RPI 129; 21-23
2020* - RPI 176; 6-9
2019 - RPI 190; 20-31
2018 - RPI 166; 25-25
2017 - RPI 139; 19-34

Last year that would look like a big upgrade over a team like URI (RPI 205) but that's not always necessarily the case. URI by year:

2021 - RPI 75; 28-26-1
2020* - RPI 71; 8-5
2019 - RPI 145; 24-29
2018 - RPI 106; 24-27

During the spring season this year Chris Jones mentioned a few times during game broadcasts that UConn baseball had scheduled a home and home weekend series with Rutgers, beginning in 2023 in Storrs. I would think that series is on the tentative schedule for next season unless something odd happens. In the past the baseball schedule has been more or less released at the UConn baseball Alumni Game, which this fall takes place this coming Sunday (it always seems to take place the last Sunday in September). In the past at the Alumni game the coaching staff have always mentioned there could be a few tweaks to the schedule, but at that point it is usually fairly well set.

True, but the upswing is due to Coach Owens and LY was his first regular non covid year. Recruiting and the portal have been good, so the RPI should remain strong.

Rutgers wouldn't replace URI, it would be a weekend against a team with a poor RPI. Instead of a St Joe's or even UMass, it would be Rutgers- big upgrade. UMass, until they can get it together in baseball, should be a weekday game home and away.

I expect URI will stay on the UConn schedule, as they usually have a team with a solid RPI, last season was the exception. As for UMass, I believe I heard at some point that they do not offer any baseball scholarships, which helps explain why they usually have an RPI well over 200. If they do not offer baseball scholarships, I would not expect much improvement from them.

At this point, we shouldnt even be traveling to their place. One game per year and we host. No need to play home and away against UMass, Central, Hartford, Sacred Heart anymore. With our focus on the RPI and our facilities now, if they want to play, they can come to us.

Sacred Heart has not appeared on the UConn baseball schedule for a few years now, and with Hartford dropping out of Division 1, I would doubt they will continue to be on UConn's schedule at all. The last few years UConn has started to play multiple games against the better teams in the region (BC, Rhode Island, Bryant, Northeastern for example) while limiting their exposure to the poorer teams in the region.

Yea, Rutgers is well positioned to duke it out with Maryland in the mid atlantic. Pitt and PSU are non factors.
