Men UConn and the 2025 MLB Draft (July 13th & 14th 2025)

What ever the case, it will be interesting to see how many UConn related players get selected in the MLB draft that is quickly approaching.

I would love to see Ryan Daniels back with UConn baseball next season, but it would not surprise me if he gets picked in this upcoming MLB draft. I also expect Brady Afthim to get selected in the draft as well, which is certainly okay with me considering he has used up his college baseball eligibility. We'll see if any other players from the team last season get selected in the draft as well.

-> “I don’t think he just deserves to be drafted,” Penders said. “I think he deserves to be taken in the top five rounds. That hit tool that he has is very rare. He loves to play. He has an unbelievable personality and vibrance to him. Everyone is drawn to him, because he has a real dynamism that I put a really high value on.” <-

-> …“I am more than happy to go back to UConn,” Daniels said. “That is my place. I love it there. I have been here all summer still. You really can’t get me out of this place. When people ask me what I am doing or if I would go back to school or if I don’t get picked what happens? I always say that I won’t even be sad.

“I will go back to UConn for another year, and we will try again next year. I am super excited for whatever happens. If it is UConn, I will be just as excited as I would for a professional baseball opportunity.” <-

Wow! After saying he wants to return to UConn for next season, I would think it would decrease the possibility that Daniels gets selected in the early rounds of the draft. We'll see what happens.

Maddix's brother just got drafted by the San Diego Padres with the 190th pick. He is a grad student pitcher out of Shippensburg U in PA.

This is where NIL/revenue sharing can make a huge difference. Draft eligible players know there is money and incentive to stay if they aren’t bowled over/drafted lower or offered as FAs. Rispoli, Daniels, Soldra and Finn may make out very well if they stay - and deservedly so since they’re proven players. If all those guys stay, that means UConn’s got a nice NIL/revenue war chest.

Pretty much what I was expecting in terms of UConn connected players and the MLB draft for this year.

Certainly hope so. Don’t know what kind of a bonus that would pay.
Likely $150k bonus as that is what can be offered without counting towards the bonus pool. I would assume it is highly unlikely that he will make it to Storrs

In general, if you get drafted as a college eligible, you go.
