Would be weird not to have a money game. The $1.5M+ cash is a part of being an independent
We got money for playing that BC game at Fenway under edsall. Maybe there's some compensation for playing a neutral site here

Mine either, don't get seats on the 50. Not worth it.

Perhaps not for long. I wrote the Yankees management and said in light of their push to host more football games going forward, it would be a big plus for fans if they installed a "removable foul pole" so the view wouldn't be tarnished during football games--especially on the 50 yard line--which should normally result in a higher priced ticket. They said they'll work on it. It can't be that hard.

Usually with neutral site games the teams both get an "appearance fee" and the venue keeps the gate.

Technically that was a UConn home game that they negotiated, for a fee, to move to Fenway. The question here is whether the game is a UConn home game, Syracuse home game or a true neutral site game. If a true neutral site game I anticipate both teams get paid something.

I have a few question on scheduling that maybe answers already exist. Thanks in Advance

1)When we play an FCS opponent why don't we play Yale? I would think this would cerate some excitement in the state better than Merrimack.
2) We played a bunch of AAC schools this year Rice, UAB, FA. Why not play Army and Navy? Would love to go back to West Point. Why spend money on travel when we can drive 2 hours for the same conference teams
3)We played ACC, Duke and Wake Forest. We should be playing BC and Pitt from ACC IMO. Why is this?

1. No idea. Don’t care. Nothing against Yale. It’s not any more exciting than playing Central or Sacred Heart.

2. Because both Army and Navy only have so many OOC slots and the scheduling didn’t work out. When Army announced that they were joining the AAC they canceled a game or two with us.

3. We played BC last year and the year before. What’s the difference between Duke and Pitt? Nothing, that’s what.

The answer to all three is “independent scheduling means that you play whoever you can.”

I imagine a large part of the equation is the opponent wanting to schedule the games.

We played Yale recently, which I imagine was an exception on their part (perhaps because they felt at that time they could beat us. and almost did). Normally they do not have any desire for games such as these.

We hasd a few games against Army on future schedules that needed to be cancelled when they joined the AAC. Navy hasn't been on the schedule since we left the AAC but that could in part be due to their not being pleased with our decision to leave.

Three of our four AAC opponents wre not in the conference when we were and the games may well have been scheduled prior to their joining the AAC.

I think I heard that we do have Yale on the schedule again in a couple of years as our FCS opponent, but not certain. Pitt is on the schedule for 2027 and 28 I believe. Army in 2027 I think. It was the only game not cancelled when they joined the AAC. We also have a few games with Duke in the next few years.

I heard another series with BC is in the works, too. But none of those guys are playing us every year in part because they want to play a variety of teams too.

We don’t play Yale because it doesn’t count towards bowl eligibility as they are technically “non-scholarship”. They also only play a 10 week season.
This is the first i heard of this. Why don't they count? I refuse to believe this is the reason

It’s exactly the reason: From 2021 game story by Jeff Jacob:

-> UConn already has FCS Holy Cross on its 2021 schedule. An FBS team can count one win per season toward bowl eligibility against an FCS team and only if it awards athletic aid equivalent to 56.7 scholarships (90 percent of the limit) over a period of a few years. It’s a stupid rule. Yale, which will receive a $285,000 guarantee from UConn, does not give athletic scholarships. Central Connecticut, which will receive $275,000 guarantees for each game at Rentschler in 2022 and 2025, fits that criteria. Yale-Army originally was supposed to be one game at Yale and two games at Army, Siedlecki said, but the NCAA changed that win criteria for qualification for bowl games and Army pulled out. <-

Alright. Fine. Very stupid rule but so it stands.
