Our record may have been dismal but throughout the year NFL scouts from several teams have been showing up at practices to further evaluate some of our draft prospects like Travis Jones and Ryan Van Denmark. Importantly, both were invited to post season all-star games. Travis will play in the prestigious Senior Bowl in Mobile AL. Ryan, who was invited to the All Star Hula Bowl in Orlando, chose to play in the NFLPA Bowl in Pasadena CA. Both players will have premier opportunities to show their stuff.

Meanwhile, those scouts were also putting their eyes on several of our under the radar players recommended by Coach Spanos. One of them is Omar Fortt. Here's a video highlight reel on Omar currently showing on YouTube.

We wish all our guys the best as they pursue their dreams.

Well, don't think the attention paid by the scouts to some of our guys during practice isn't paying off. Omar Fortt's agent just announced that Omar has been invited to participate in the 2022 College Gridiron Showcase in Ft Worth TX and play in The Tropical Bowl in Orlando. Great way to get more exposure. We wish him well.

He was able to make things happen against Clemson which generally has very good lines. He's a good combine showing from moving into the second round.

Needs to show pass rush skills in the showcase bowl. If he does he is a second rounder for certain. If not might fall to late 3rd or early 4th. I think he will show well. Wherever he goes he is going to be a big contributor in the pros (literally and figuratively)

Very impressive videos against Clemson. Strong and disruptive against both pass and run.

This past summer I was told by someone close to the program (who likely is more than a bit biased) that Travis has better agility numbers than any 325+lb first round pick in the past few drafts (this could be an exaggeration and there was no way to prove it at the time). While raw size/speed/agility numbers don't always translate directly to football success, there are teams that love to draft based on things like that (look at Byron Jones' combine earning him a spot in the first round). TJ should receive an invitation to the combine and if he performs as expected, he will open a lot of eyes. He wont last past the third round and someone may be willing to take a flyer on him in the second round.

-> The list of 73 players granted special eligibility for entry to the 2022 NFL Draft was released by the NFL on Friday.

Each of the players granted special eligibility has met the league's three-year eligibility rule and has submitted to a written application in which he renounced his remaining college football eligibility. The deadline for receiving applications was Jan. 17. <-

-> The following players inquired about their draft status and are eligible for selection without the need for special eligibility:
  • Travis Jones, DT, Connecticut <-

What happened to DJ this past season? He barely played. I guess I just assumed he was buried on the depth chart, but was he injured?
I'm curious about this too.
