Excellent! Always good to see baseball Huskies selected. Montgomerie adds to the collection of Huskies to get selected in the first 10 rounds the mlb draft.

Thinking Yahn and Russell have some hard thinking to do... how much can they improve their stock/path with another year.

Nice position to be in but still need solid advice. There are arguments/examples for both sides of the dilemma.

Draft day is a big thing for UConn baseball. But today, with ex Pointers John Russell and Doug Domnarski getting drafted, it is a huge day for Avery Point baseball. A really nice capper to what Roger Bidwell has built at Avery Point.

The Day loves to do stories on baseball players with connections to southeastern Connecticut high schools, Avery Point, and the Mystic Schooners. With Russell playing one semester of baseball at Avery Point, this story is a natural for The Day.

Lots of good stuff in this article. For instance, Russell did not start pitching until his senior year of high school in Glastonbury. It also includes Russell transferring from UConn after his first semester so he could play one season with Avery Point, and then transferring back to UConn to play in Storrs. Russell is very effusive on the coaching he has received along the way, especially from Roger Bidwell and pitching coach Jeff Clark at Avery Point. Also, Russell came to UConn as a walk on, and never received any scholarship money. That is not really a surprise, but it is a bit stunning considering how he just blossomed this season.

Guess this answers one question:

Nothing is official until he signs. I saw Lee Mazz telling LJ to say go spend the time with his teammates when they won the Big East tournament tourney and then he ended up coming back for his senior year. Having said that, whatever Yahn decides, I'll be rooting like hell for him to succeed.
