UConn +7 v. MSU | The Boneyard

UConn +7 v. MSU

Getting fewer points than last night!

#lessbadenough

My thought. Then again, I thought the line last night was much too high and that has more to do with me thinking that Oregon was way overpriced than UConn being disrespected. Oregon lost almost their entire team and was relying on fifth year transfers.

There certainly seemed to be more Oregon fans there, but it definitely didn't feel like a road game watching on TV and usually Vegas treats neutral games the same no matter where they are. For what it's worth, KenPom isn't as high on Michigan State (#11) as the humans. I'm surprised there is even a line with Bridges being a game time call. Have to figure he's worth at least a couple points.

Guess Vegas has less respect for MSU then the media "experts"

Little concerned with Michigan State rebounding/ offensive rebounding. They are consistently one of the best in county and usually a very physical team. Not sure how the team will respond or combat that with the youth and inexperience

Cobb would be huge, because Nick Ward is going to take a ton of FGA and gets to the line extremely often. We need all the fouls we can give.

On the flip side, Ward is also very foul prone, so we need to attack him and get him tired (not in great shape), so he starts to hack.

This year (not a big sample), they grab a ton of offensive boards, but are 205th in opponent OReb%. We’re very good on both sides on the boards. Hopefully we can at least come out even in that department.

Uconn vs Michigan State, head to head, historically. Uconn leads the all time series 4 to 2. Uconn has won the last 3 matchups and that last loss must stick in the back of Toms mind as he prepares for tonight. Two of the last three times Uconn has won, they have been unranked...Can they make it a third time (out of four)?

That 2000 loss, Saturday afternoon game if I remember, stung and I remember it well. MSU led like 48 to 17 at the half and 65 to 29 midway through the 2nd half. Uconn only got it under 20 in garbage time and I was sad for the rest of the weekend after seeing them get pounded so badly. The only other time that ever happened, where they were so badly overmatched was vs. Kansas in 1995.

Any way, lets go Huskies!

I'd love to win this game, but realistically - depending on where they're at health-wise, i'll be happy if we keep it within 10 points. I want a close, competitive game. 7+ is absurd, sorry. It we can win tonight, I mean i'd be wayyyy over the moon.

+7 is a couple points lower than what I expected, but let's take it easy with the Michigan State knob polishing. They lost 15 games last year. "I'll be happy if we keep it within 10 points" is not a great representation of the situation, especially given the fact that they aren't a program that is traditionally razor sharp this time of year (this season has been no exception so far).

They're more talented, they're deeper, and they're bigger/longer/stronger, but man for man we're not outgunned that badly. We have at least a couple guys who any coach in the country would be happy to have on their team and that can take you a long way. If we get more than we expect from somebody like Carlton, Polley, or Whaley, suddenly we're right in the game. It's not so different than the last time we played them in a preseason tournament seven years ago.

I would be willing to bet that Izzo is concerned about this game, as he should be.

I like our guards more than theirs, don’t think Winston can keep up with AG. The one thing I’m concerned about is jaren Jackson, he is huge and very athletic. Easily will be the best physical prospect on the floor, though he is a bit raw on both ends.

All we need is 1 guy to go off and Jalen, Terry and Alterique give us similar to last night. A couple less fouls on the bigs and our 4 guard rotation drives them nuts. 4 capable athletic guys who don't scare the heck out of you late in the game when they have the rock in their hands.
