Was over 50 shots, but went down to 48. Great win against a ranked team!!! Huska was nasty tonight

The UConn men's hockey tradition of pulling off upsets against quality Hockey East opponents continues. It really is amazing.

Had no idea Nichols would be that puny compared to Huska.

5" and 20 lbs is a pretty decent size difference
Nichols 5'11" 185
Huska 6'4" 205 lbs

Do you think Cavanaugh gives him the night off tomorrow? It wouldn't surprise me.

I think he's quickly becoming the #1, though.

Never looked that deeply into the roster. Given that, Huska is likely going to remain the starter for a good while. We got a solid goalie in the right building.

Cavanaugh would be dumb to put in Nichols. Huska is the #1.

Still, this team cannot keep giving up an obscene amount of shots against the top six teams in the league every time they play. It has to start to improve and soon.

after facing 48 shots, I really think it will be Nichols tmrw. It would be good to test huska back to back, but I think cav will start rob tmrw

They still have issues with winning one-on-one battles in their own end and clearing the zone.

Actually the double headed monster of Nichols and Huska can allow this team to make up the difference in talent up front. Until one of them takes the job...each of them goes into a start fully rested. As the season wears on this can allow them to steal a few games against better teams, and make a run by not losing games to teams that are around them in the standings.

Great statement.
Nichols is a good goalie but just cannot play every night though. The two of them together could make for a really good season.

Need the Tortorella coaching style to starting teaching their defenseman to start blocking shots I guess

Nice win by the boys. My guess is that Nichols gets the start. 50 shots is a work out.

As long as Huska consumed a lot of protein immediately after the game, he'll be fine. This is a 2 game series, not pro hockey.

Nichols is good but Huska is a step up. We'll find out who starts today soon enough. I'd stick with Huska, he loves the challenge. If Nichols has to play for the sake of chemistry or balancing injuries, then so be it. He's proven himself.

Huska didn't look that good against Quinnipiac but apparently was great last night. Let's not get crazy about 1 game, be it great or poor. They have comparable save percentages so far (AH 938%, RN 93.3%). RN Has a much lower GAA (2.59 vs 1.44) but I think save pct is a better measure. We know what we have in Nichols and that is a good and sometimes spectacular goalie. He should not be kicked to the curb. I would split every weekend with the 2 goalies, assuming both are healthy.

This year's team is much more structured. Breakout passes while not perfect have improved and neutral zone play is cleaner than last season. We do lose track of defensive assignments at times in our own zone which leads to scrambling but that's something that can only be minimized not completely eradicated. Kalter and El-Mir have taken a clear step in their respective games, as mentioned somewhere on here Howell adds a little tenacity and grit, Freeman has played responsibly in key roles and our defensive core has generally played consistently above average (especially Newpower and Pratt) although the jury is still out on Masonius. We do have a 2 headed goaltending monster which not many teams in college hockey can claim and our scoring depth has improved with the resurgence of Naas and notable contributions from a stable of players like Richardson, Kasperi O and the aforementioned Kalter/El-Mir. One more thing is Brian Morgan has played better than could be expected but we are still waiting on Schwartz, Masonius and Gendron to elevate their play.
