One thing I've noticed over the years I've been following UConn baseball is that the coaching staff likes to have lefty pitchers facing lefty batters, and that UConn batting orders rarely have lefty batters hitting back to back to each other, usually there is at least one righty batter in between any lefty batters in the lineup.

Bottom 8th, after Mayer gets the 1st batter out Mayer comes out of the game. Hamberger takes the mound, he will be facing a lefty batter.

Hamberger gives up a double to the 1st batter he faces. Hamberger comes out of the game, Alejandro takes the mound.

After a fly out for the 2nd out on which the runner advances to 3B, Alejandro gives up a walk putting runners on the corners. The runner on 1B steals 2B. A double drives in 2 runs, 7-2 Creighton going to the next inning.

Top 9th, Shpur leads off with a single, Daniels follows with a no out 2 run homer, 7-4 Creighton.

With no out, Minick reaches 2B due to an error. Minick is left on base, and Creighton wins 7-4 to take the Big East Tourney.

Glad Daniels got that HR to close out his game on positive note. Could be helpful if team makes tourney.

Penders seemed to be aiming for that as well with his pitching choices in B8.

UConn not scoring with bases loaded three times was a big reason they lost.

I’m still hopeful they play on.

I think anything’s possible for a deep run. They don’t control the run game/small ball well & they’re not all that good defensively. Last year, that was the magic in the OU regional. With the pitching what it is, that is a source of doubt.

I have been thinking of this. UConn baseball has had similar seasons the last 2 years. Both regular seasons were similar, UConn got off to a rather slow start in both seasons. Last season UConn lost both games they played in the Big East Tournament, but still got an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. At least this year they won 2 games in the Big East Tournament. I'm inclined to think they still have a decent chance of getting an at large bid, but we will have to see what happens, at large bids are also subject to how other teams do that are contenders for at large bids.

Unfortunately with injuries not sure what we can do if we make it. Ellisen, Cooke and Lane all hurt, 2 of them your better pitchers to an already depleted pitching staff. What my complaint was about the offense was brought to light again today. Facing teams with quality pitching and our offense struggles. Their pitching wasn't even great today. They were handing us walk after walk and because of our very aggressive approach at the plate we swung at 2 ball 4s with the bases loaded. The 3rd inning could have been huge for us and we didn't score. Biller later swung at a 3-0 pitch out of the zone and grounded out. Too eager to swing when they were handing us gifts

I have mentioned before that I have been following UConn baseball closely since the 2010 season. Before 2010, I would listen to some UConn baseball games that were carried on UConn radio station WHUS. For a number of years before 2010, I listened to UConn sports broadcasts on WHUS quite often, and that included UConn baseball games. It just happened that when I really got going in following UConn baseball in 2010, Adam Giardino was the WHUS sports director and under him, WHUS started carrying more UConn baseball games and doing quite well with it. The following year, Chris Jones became the WHUS sports director, and under him WHUS started carrying almost every UConn baseball game that was played in a season. I just loved listening to the UConn baseball games when they were on WHUS, even after Giardino and Jones graduated from UConn.

It just so happens that Giardino and Jone were doing separate broadcasts of the UConn games in this Big East Tourney, I just thought I would mention that they are a big reason that I took such a big liking to UConn baseball. I blame them for how much attention I pay to UConn baseball these days.

Other players on the UConn team have had injuries as well this season both season ending injuries and temporary injuries all through the season. Some guys have been playing while hurt as well. No question in my mind that it has affected how UConn has performed this season.

Dang, had UConn won earlier, they'd be on FS1 right now.
