Top 7th, after a leadoff single, Shaw has a scoreless inning. 13-3 UConn.

No run rule, you have to consider lesser used pitchers at this point

Looking like the mercy rule is not going to take over in this game.

Bottom 7th, Minick draws a 1 out walk, Dougherty gets a 2 out single that puts runners on the corners. Root follows with a walk to load the bases. No runs come in this inning. 13-3 UConn.

Chris Jones said during the broadcast that there is no mercy rule in this game.

Bottom 8th, after a 1 out walk by Rispoli and a 2 out walk by Daniels, the UConn offense has a scoreless inning. 13-3 UConn.

My wife isn't home right now, so I had to take care of our new puppy who was at day camp today. Wow, looks like I missed some good action by UConn while I was dealing with our puppy.

Hope it's a Husky puppy.

St John’s is really bad. Hard to believe they were the 4th best team in this — or any — conference.

If we can get to the championship round, I still think Van Emon has something big in store.

Guessing that Charlie West will get the start in the game tomorrow. If UConn wins the game tomorrow, it will be interesting to see who the starting pitcher(s) will be on Saturday when the Big East tournament championship game(s) will be played.

With last night's win, UConn went 4-0 versus St. Johns this year, outscoring the Johnnies 57-20. Different story against Xavier, however, dropping three of four, but with a run differential of just -3.

While not exactly a "band box" (slightly shorter dimensions than Elliott), I was concerned that the games at Prasco would be slugfests. Well, the LOSING team has scored 8 runs in three of the four games, and the average score has been 11 1/2 - 6 3/4 (or 12-7, if you will).

"Free 90's" update - Wednesday - 5 walks + 1 HBP in 11-8 loss
Thursday - 1 walk + 1 HBP in 13-3 win.

In 21 previous appearances, Brady Afthim had allowed just 5 earned runs all year. He gave up 5 in the loss Wednesday night. Not sure if he (or Cooke) would be available this afternoon after throwing 50 +/- pitches each on Wednesday night.

If West starts, UConn would be throwing a sophomore who was little-used last year into an elimination game. However, he is (statistically) the best starter on the squad - in 14 games (7 starts), he is 5-0 with the second leading ERA on the team (2.54). If he can avoid the "free 90's (averaging almost 6 walks per nine inning, plus 5 HBP on the year), you have to like UConn's chances today. He has only allowed 27 hits in 46 IP (versus 30 walks & 5 HBP). As DBMill is fond of saying, "We'll see what happens."

-> Perhaps no player turned their tournament around more than Aidan Dougherty. After going 0-for-4 in Wednesday’s loss, the junior right fielder went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in the encore. His average is now up to .361, which is tops on the team. <-

-> Sophomore first baseman Tyler Minick homered for the second time in as many games, upping his Big East leading total to 22. Not only is that number tied for fourth in the country in home runs, he’s one behind the season program record of 23 set in 2010 by Husky great and former major leaguer Mike Olt. <-

-> Greg Shaw III was superlative out of the pen for the Huskies, spreading five hits over five scoreless innings. A 6-foot-3 righthander who offers funk and deception from a lower slot, he struck out three and generated a lot of weak, fly-ball contact. <-
