Well, the team gave us hope beating up on the dregs of the Big East, but clearly, there are more holes here than a piece of swiss cheese. Still gonna root hard the rest of the way but I’m back to zero expectations for the rest of this week and certainly have no expectations if they somehow are still playing next week.

We had a 6 run lead and a 4 run lead. Should be able to protect that. You’re getting on an offense that was biblical for a good part of the season.
But it was against really bad pitching. Anytime we have faced quality pitching they have struggled

One bid league this year.
No...it will be a two bid league. If UConn wins against SJU and then beats the loser of XU vs CU to go the championship, they will be selected to a regional.

For UConn, CU, and XU a championship appearance gets the job done. SJU obviously has to win it all. The Big East isn't getting three teams, so UConn is playing for its post season life tomorrow and then again on Friday if they get there.

Just win two games.

I'm not about to knock anyone on the team but will point out the painfully obvious, which is if you can't depend on your pitching winning becomes exceptionally difficult.

Hopefully the guys who can throw a number of innings over the next (hopefully) few games will be close to the top of their games. That's basically what we can hope for.

Pitching has been questionable since the opening series in February. We scored 19 runs in 3 games and couldn't win one of them!

Up until now, Cooke and Afthim have been among the most reliable pitchers that come out of the UConn bullpen for a good chunk of this season. Neither did all that well yesterday, but still, it would be nice if they were available to pitch during the rest of the Big East Tournament. Both of them threw near 50 pitches yesterday, so it will be interesting to see when they are available to be used again. Certainly doubt it would be in the game today, that is for sure. Not having them available to pitch is something of a loss for how the UConn pitching staff is used for the rest of this tournament.

One thing of note that occurs to me is that last season UConn did not win any games in the Big East Tournament, but still got an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Don't know if that will happen again this season (don't want to find out, that is for sure), but definitely want to see a UConn win against St. John's today so they can have a chance for another victory over either Creighton or Xavier or both if they make it to the Tournament final game(s) on Saturday.

My haiku experiment using AI tool.

Under the bright sun
UConn swings for victory
St. John’s stands in awe

Let’s go HookC

Good to see that nothing has changed and the same posters are still overreacting with the same hot takes after a tough postseason loss...
So let’s say it calmly. We had an absolutely terrific 25 game stretch of hitting where we pounded overwhelmingly bad teams into submission and masked our pitiching problems. Good for us. Going 23-2 is a heck of an achievement no matter the level of competition in baseball.

But chiding those for overreacting doesn’t mask the facts that this team’s pitching is really poor, and having constantly hidden that against a really week portion of our schedule doesn’t change that.

There can be no worrying about who will pitch in a game 4 or 5. We need to throw horses out today and hopefully tomorrow as if our NCAA future depends on it. Because it probably does.

Sure, nothing you said is wrong. But you'd have to agree it's pretty crazy to complain about this team's hitting

Top 1st, Ellisen gives up a leadoff infield single, the runner steals 2B. After 2 strikeouts, a 2 out single drives in a run. 1-0 St. John's.

Another strikeout ends the inning. 1-0 St. John's.
