This year, 2014, is the greatest year (most championships) in the history of women's basketball associated with one university. That is counting all future, present and UConn alums. EIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS involving UConn players! And of course Geno coaching two of those championship teams.

Future:
USA U-17 World Championships - Da'janae Boykin, Katie Lou Samuelson
USA U-18 World Championships - Napheesa Collier
USA Youth Olympic 3x3 Basketball Championship - Boykin, Collier, Samuelson

Present:
2014 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship 40 - 0 Breanna Stewart MOP
FIBA World Championship - Breanna Stewart

Alums:
China League Championship - Maya Moore MVP
WNBA Championship - Dianna Taurasi MVP
WNBA Regular Season MVP- Maya Moore
FIBA World Championship - Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Dianna Taurasi , Maya Moore- MVP

It can't get any better than this. Can it?

No European championships in 2014 for UConn alums. Plenty of them in years past.......and future.

"Greatest Year in the History of Woman's Basketball"

Yes, but which woman?
Are you being picky?? Women's Basketball is what you want?? Woman's basketball may imply one woman, but it is how the sport is known. Sometimes we go for the "aggravated usage" meaning--just to screw up the heads of the kids in Elementary school who are actually studying English usage, punctuation, and grammar. You realize it is no longer taught in Colleges especially Journalism colleges. Read the newspapers they no longer use "proof readers" with the advent of spell check. It is the school of "if it feels good it must be right". My new religion--want to join???

Gentle poster,

it's known as "women's basketball."

UConn
NCAA
USA Basketball
FIBA

When you google "woman's basketball" it defaults to "women's basketball":

Search instead forwoman's basketball

And, to stay on topic: the whole year was pretty amazing.

If pointing out incorrect usage (or a typo) = picky, then yes, I'm being picky.

No, the sport is not known as "woman's basketball." That would make no sense.

For me, 2014 was all about this.

Everything else was gravy.

Galatasaray won the Euroleague title, beating Fenerbahce in the finals. The winner's lineup included Sancho Lyttle, Alba Torrens, Shavonte Zellous, and Kelsey Bone.

UMMC Ekaterinburg lost in the semis to Galatasaray. Their lineup included Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, and Candace Parker, I believe.
