Only one thing matters: Winning that very last game.

The rest is just talk. Speculation. Opinion. Noise.

Two goals count: (1) Get TO that last game, then (2) Win it.

The ranking of UConn and ND and who thinks who is #2 or #3 isn't the interesting part of the poll. It's the 4 coaches that still ranked UConn #1 after losing to #5 at home compared, but are unwilling to rank Baylor #1 after the characteristics of their loss to Stanford...on the road, without Sims after the first 4min etc. Those 4 coaches are choosing a 1 loss UConn that just lost to a previously thought down ND on their homecourt over a 1 loss defending champion who barely lost without it's pg in a neutral location early on.

I don't care so much if UConn is still ranked above ND because we get the benefit of a rematch to settle that, but with the way polls are suppose to work I don't see how you can't drop UConn from #1 after a loss when the alternative is Baylor with what they offer. How do you justify and forgive the ND loss and not the Stanford loss for Baylor?

Interesting fact…….when we’ve gotten to the national championship game…..we’ve always won it. The women have been to the final seven times…..and we’ve won it seven times.

The men have been there three times…..and have won it three times.

Not a bad record in NCAA, Div 1, National Championship basketball games….10-0!

I disagree. A game that close tells me nothing about who is the better team. A wide open 3 missed by a 50% shooter that would have given UConn the win means ND is better?

SOS, stats against top teams, analysis of both teams.

If UConn beats Baylor, would you still have ND ahead of UConn? How about Baylor. Would ND now be ahead of Baylor if UConn wins? Can't be since Baylor beat ND.

It's not so simple.
Thank you for a little common sense. The people who automatically presume that a victory in a overtly close game proves whose better could take a lesson remembering how UConn beat Notre Dame 3 times a couple of years ago, yet lost to them in the Final Four. Does 3 victories over an opponent versus one victory mean anything in that situation???? We didn't play in the finals, did we?????? I remember many years ago, Buckeley High School of Hartford lost four games all year long and all four were to Hartford Public who had lost a couple of games to teams that Buckeley had beaten during the course of the year. The losses were in the CDC league, the state finals and the New England finals. If you take into account that Buckeley had beaten teams that in turn beat Hartford Public, what does it all mean???? What if this is the year where UConn loses a couple of times to Notre Dame only to beat them in the NCAA tournament. Maybe UConn will run into women's basketball referees who aren't intimidated by Notre Dame and will in fact call an accurate game with some charges called when players start charging towards the basket totally out of control rather than call blocking in every instance Duggins and her pals do so.

In a rematch, if all things stay the same except for the 3 point shooting stats and those normalize, the game would look like this.

ND went 6-12. They shoot 33% so they would go 4-12. -6 points.
UConn went 5-23. They shoot 38% so they would go 9-23. +12 points.

UConn by 17???

I know.....really really bad analysis. But still....If UConn can shoot better from 3, I like their chances. They played ND even if not a little better in every other way (well, except the foul line, but that will never change).

Because it isn't so simple, I believe the polls are just an estimate about where a team should. I believe UCONN is better than N.D. but quite frankly, they didn't take care of business with N.D. so they should be ranked below them at this point. If we beat Baylor on Monday than UCONN has beat 3 of the other top 4 and lost by one to N.D. so we have a case for #1. Good thing about WCBB is March gives everyone a chance to straighten all that stuff out on the court.
