The problem that voters face this year is that you actually have to find 25 teams worthy of the top-25.

Good point...maybe we should go back to the 1970s where they only had a top 20...or the 1950s, where it was just a top 10...though you'd probably struggle to get past 6 or so this year.

And uconn is #24 in the AP poll.
You beat me by 1 minute posting this...

Hopefully these rankings will light some kind of fire under the team's collective asses.
But I doubt it...

I wasn't sure they'd be ranked, and then I went down the list of schools that were out of the 25 but received votes and I think the rankings are fine.

I think uconn is being helped by FSU and Arkansas coming up with wins against ranked teams.

At this point the UConn rankings can be ignored. We are better than our ranking but can't seem to prove it. We haven't seen the 'real' UConn yet, hopefully that team will emerge.

Next 5.
ND
@GU
SH
@LU
@SU

It needs to emerge quickly. 2-3 won't cut it. 16-8 (6-6).

Yeah, I know. UConn will wait until the BE Tourney and NCAA to run the table again. No worry :)

I was hoping they would not be ranked.
Nothing like a reality check for motivation.

3-2 through that stretch would be pretty good, esp considering that would mean we'd have to beat a ranked team in their gym... we need to beat ND and get boat back- those are the priorities at this point (unless you think Alex can somehow find his game this week, and I'd take that too)

Big spread between the writers' poll and the coaches' poll. I wonder if the coaches are sympathetic to losing a player because of more NCAA crap.

It would be great to see the team go 3-o over the next 3. I'm not so confident that will happen, especially the way the team played on Saturday, but I have a hard time seeing them beat Cuse and UL on the road.

umm,i dont think we`re better than our ranking. we havent been very good and are lucky to still be in the top 25.

Excellent point. It must be hard for the voters to make much sense out of the cluster-mess resumes of most of the top 35 to 50 teams. Good example is 14-5 (4-3 BE Conf) UConn beats ND on their floor a couple weeks ago, and then ND goes and beats #1 SU the other night. Now is SU not as good as the voters thought? Is UConn not as bad as their records seems to point to?

The voters take into account each week who beat who and who lost to who and if the results are wildly all over the place like it has been this year, with team A beating Team B, but huh, then losing to Team C who beat what-the-f#%$ Team B, their heads begin to explode. :) This sort of thing always happens, but it seems to be happening a lot more often this year.

The field just seems like one big cluster of flawed teams. Now didn't the SU loss take place without Fab Melo who's been playing well this season? Was someone else out for that game? With their full compliment of players I still think SU is one of the top teams in the nation, while UConn on the other hand, had F-4 to E-8 talent, but is playing like a bubble team right now...granted not with its compliment of players (missing Ryan Boatright). IMO, with RB all season long, I think this team would be around 19-1 or 18-2, and ranked somewhere in the Top 10.

He means "theoretically" we have the talent. Which is true. But reality-wise, you're right we're not better than our ranking... yet.

there are many top 25 teams who are losing to unranked teams. Obviously with wins over UNC and Duke, FSU will jump into the top 25 again. makes UCONN's win over them a REALLY good win. of course, a couple of our losses don't look so good.

still, this team seems to be lacking something. we are all hoping they will "get it" sooner rather than later.

Go Murray St. Go!! They play a weak schedule but they are the last of the undefeated. Nice to have one remaining this time of the season, particularly an 'unknown'.

no team has ever won a national title on theory. its won on the hardwood and right now this team is not playing well and surprisingly is showing no signs of coming around. im worried right now but havent given up on the season like some appear to be but if hits mid feb and there is still no improvement we could be in trouble.

I think they are having a great season. Entertaining. That doesn't mean I've seen the flashes of brilliance necessary to be a top 10 team. If everyone returns .......
