Im afraid that's correlation not causation
There has been some recent discussion about expanding the size of the tournament and this discussion has had some push back. The larger (power football) conferences want to know that there will always be room for more than half (ideally in their exits 2/3) of their conference earning tournament credits in the dance.

This selection committee just sent a message that if other conferences want to be more than marginally represented they need to be in favor of expanding the tournament.

I guess my thread got deleted (?) so I’ll interject here because it’s not just an over-reaction.

They need to get rid of Val. She is a small time thinking commissioner. This is still a small time league- we need someone who thinks of it as something more than that.

Once again, the BE needs us more than we need the BE.

Very concerned about the future of the league. The committee basically treated BE like it is the A10

If you find that surprising you haven't been paying attention.

EXTREMELY impressive were the #1 OVR seed in a 3 bid league. Not a ton of quality win opportunities but we just absolutely dominated everyone all year and earned this as a result. Now to win 6 more!!!

FYI, by KenPom's analytics, the Big East was the second strongest conference in all of college basketball. But you do you

You’re not impressed we got the number one overall seed in a three bid league?
The seeding is won by the team, not the league.

Head to head we had one convincing, in-conference loss and that was to Creighton. Our Seton Hall loss was sparked by an in game injury to our dominant player. Given a few days to game around the loss of that player, we won comfortably, waiting that player's return to the lineup.

As was said elsewhere, all the other conference teams who did not make the field of 64, had failed to impress with their OOC record.

That stuff does count!

If anyone in the conference did, St Johns did. But the conference showed as weak outside of the top 3 teams. Sad but true.

I am starting to wonder if some of these conferences with bid stealers purposely lose just to get another bid for the conference.

In the future, the selection committee should make a rule that if there is a bid stealers, the first one that get its bubble bursted should be another team that's on the bubble in the same conference.

St John's and Shall deserved in, for sure over MSU who, ONCE again gets in with 14 losses. Hope unc crushes them if they win their first.
I've got them falling to Mississippi State.

He's right, and "shell game" is exactly the right term.

The Committee has their predetermined outcome (e.g. Virginia getting into the field), and will use any post hoc justification needed to support it.

The fact that the most commonly-cited metric this year is non-conference SOS proves that it has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with name.

Boise State has 6 Quad 1 wins and an NET of 26 and they're in the play-in game. Texas Tech and Florida also have 6 Quad 1 wins, NET of 27 and 29, and they're 6/7 seeds. Indiana State is NET 28 and out entirely. Texas is NET 30, only 5 Quad 1 wins, and a 7 seed. It's insane.

The entire Mountain West was penalized together, with the exception of storyline darling San Diego State.

Utah State should have been a 6/7. They're an 8.
Nevada should have been a 7. They're a 10.
New Mexico should have been a 9. They're an 11.
Colorado State and Boise were projected as comfortably in the field. They're in play-in games.

Meanwhile, the Big XII, who were criticized in the exact same manner as the Mountain West for having inflated NET numbers, got very favorable treatment in seeding (TTU a 6, Texas a 7), with the exception of Oklahoma being offered as a sacrificial lamb to make it look a little less blatant.

They absolutely judge conferences as a whole despite their protestation to the contrary.

Hurley will take the 3 bids personal but it will only mean something if we Marquette or Creighton do it.
