They should just hire Bill Walton, so we can be just as outspoken about his coaching abilities. He'd be a personal punching bag for the media & deservedly so...

Walton was a big Howland supporter at the beginning. He's a big fan of his alma mater, that's OK.

Not any more. Walton called for UCLA to fire Howland recently on ESPN. Of course, everyone knows Walton is an opinionated phony, which is why it would be fun to see him coach & get a taste of his own medicine. He's so annoying.

Johnson is the BB equivalent of Herm Edwards. The ability to give good quote masked that fact that they were lousy coaches.

That's why he may be better suited for college but He did win as a pro coach.

Stevens is a great coach but he has mid-western roots (and recruiting contacts), coaches a style better suited to his type of players (hard to see his style as a selling point to the top 25 rated recruits that UCLA will demand) and seems to truly enjoy Butler.
IMHO, Smart would be a better fit but he also lacks the west coast connections.
Pastner has recruited exceptionally well at Memphis (? Does he still benefit from World Wide Wes connections?), but many if the recruits have been from the local area (no proven west coast connection) and he has yet to show that he is able to get much out of the talent he recruits.
