@HuskyNan I remember you saying you live close and go see them play sometimes. Are they as good as their record indicates? They won the American final but had to come from behind in the 4th against USF.

Just curious as to how far you think they will get in the Dance.

I didn’t renew my season’s tickets this year - no UConn game. I might next year.

I’m not a fan of the coach’s style of play. She favors an overly physical style, one of those coaches that appears to believe the refs can’t call all fouls. Sort of a Rutgers-like team from the early 2000’s

She's a CViv kid(played at Iowa in the 90s), which would explain the RU style. :P

I remember when UConn played them, it was always very physical (poor Lou must have been whacked hundred times) and they never shot the ball until only a couple seconds on shot clock. Always led to a low scoring game.

UConn-RU games were like root canal without novacaine

UCF is having their best year ever this year. Thanks in large part to having all upper class men in the starting lineup. They press almost the entire game and generally try to wear down their opponents. In large part it has worked as they have a pretty big advantage in fourth quarter scoring if I recall correctly.

The main rotation is only 7 players (4 guards, 3 bigs) but will pull in a couple more from the bench if needed. They are lead by Diamond Battles who got PoY and DPoY accolades for the season.

Still offensively challenged, though most UConn fans will say UCF is highly offensive....

I, for one, am looking forward to this game as we do have a very physical team that can bang with them plus significantly more offense....

The focus is defense for sure and it has worked for the team but the offense has been more consistent than in years past. The defense has averaged giving up 47.5 for the year so don't need huge scores typically.

I am extremely disappointed with our draw overall. I would have rather gotten any of the other 2 seeds for obvious reasons. Florida game is exciting and hoping we win there but just hate that we didn't get sent anywhere else.

Selfishly I also wanted to go to one of the Texas hosts because I could have driven there and there is no way for me to reasonably make it to UCONN.

I would have loved to see UCF play Baylor.
Remember how the Baylor fans complained Louisville was too physical the game Shonni Shimmel shot about 50 3pointers? :D

A lot of highly ranked teams would have had different seasons if they had to play in the Old Big East (UConn, Rutgers, Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse, St John’s, West Virginia, BC, et al). It was a rock fight every night.

Iowa already survived a close run in with UCF earlier this season so I'm happy to not see them in Iowa City! ;) Should Colorado and Iowa both advance, that would probably be a pretty similar game though.

In previous years the game after UCF played UConn, they would not be as physical, and a number of times lost without giving that team anywhere near the trouble they gave UConn. Don't want to see them in this year's tourney.

If they still play the way they used to when they played UConn it is borderline dirty. The coaches style is dependent on the incompetence of the refs to make the calls. She Should become a better coach and she wouldn’t have to rely On Poor officiating. If Connecticut plays them hopefully no one gets hurt. I remember how battered Lou was during that game.

She took over a horrible UCF team and has gone 130-48 and been to the last 3 tournaments so seems like she’s doing just fine. I’m sorry that UCF doesn’t play the way UCONN likes other teams to play against them. They should really do a better job of playing more conveniently for UCONN.

I was SHOCKED that UCF is 14th in D1 with fewest fouls committed.
Well, why “technically true”, the stat rank you quoted was for total fouls committed, not for fouls per game. As UCF only played 28 games committing 383 fouls, their fouls per game has them ranked 27th with 13.678 per while UConn is ranked 24th with 13.566 per.

Maybe the refs just get so tired of blowing their whistles in the 1st 3 quarters of the UCF game they say “the heck with it” and let them play?

27 isn't any less shocking. UCF beats you up.

Got my AAC champ shirt in the mail yesterday and very happy to see the Knights get their first NCAA win over Florida.

I watched the second half of this game and was very impressed by UCF’s performance. Great discipline and energy to sustain Florida’s runs and remain in control throughout.

Ok...so UCF gets UCONN in Round 2. Can they muster enough offense to keep up? Can they slow UCONN down enough to stay in it? I know they're one of the best defensive teams out there...but playing UCONN will be another animal.

I know the last two times UCF played in Storrs, MOV was 8 and 11 points.

That is one of the more interesting second round games I'm looking forward to.

Where are you getting this stat? That doesn't match my memory.

That wasn't quite accurate. UCF has NEVER played UCONN closely in Storrs until the 2019-20 season.

Looking at the UCF media guide...

It shows UCF lost to UCONN, 59-52, on January 16, 2020 at home, and 66-53 in Storrs, on February 22nd.

That must have been what was meant at the UCF press conference.

All other games with UCONN in the previous few years had been blowout affairs, with the closest margin of victory 18 points.

I should have done my research first before posting. That'll teach me to trust the media!

This is UCF’s most complete team of Coach Abe’s tenure by far. Unfortunately for UCF I think this UCONN team is much better and deeper than the one they played in UCONN’s last year in the American when they managed to keep the score relatively close. I think the only chance UCF has is if their role players step up and make some uncharacteristic perimeter shots. As a UCF fan I don’t think we have enough firepower offensively to come out on top in this one but who knows. This has been a weird year and this UCF team hasn’t lost a game by more than 8 points. Those two 8 point losses were to Tennessee in November when UCF was a lot more offensively challenged and at Iowa (without Brittney Smith).

UCF played well today but 2 things to keep in mind, Florida lost their best player and this UConn team is very much as physical as UCF is if it comes to that. This team is hardened due to the trials and hardships they have encountered and endured this year. They have an edge to them that other teams of the past few years did not have and tomorrow will be a good test of that mettle with this former league foe.
