Exactly. Houston is a top 25 team in the thick of the Big12 race, and hosted WVU yesterday. Announced attendance was 25k, and people think there was maybe only 15k. It’s not just an us problem
We may be returning to what was typical until maybe the 1990s. Many if not most schools drew big crowds for a couple of games each season. UCLA-USC had huge crowds for the season ending game in the sun. But most games, I went to a few UCLA games in the late 80s, drew a halfish filled stadium. Same with Syracuse, Army, BC pre-Flutie, Miami had more hotdog sellers than fans. And now there are so many other options for watching. And they have made the fan experience secondary. Lengthy media time outs among the worst offenders.

There will be a verry sizable showing v. Duke. When the program is winning and there are teams with some level of brand recognition or consequence, they show. You have to remember, it’s was pretty bleak for a good decade +.
Normally I would agree, but this time of year weather plays a big role. Last I looked they had it at 56% chance of rain. Might be good for the final score, though.

Understanding (most of) them isn’t hard. They blame the football program for remaking the old Big East into the American and not asking to go with the Catholic schools into the new Big East.
A couple years back, at the peak of their Twitter spaces (or whatever) one of the Cool UConn Basketball Online Guys (TM) got really mad when I insisted UConn as a a university overall has a lot more in common with Pitt or WVU than Creighton or DePaul, it’s weird.

The one and only time I talked on a Spaces was in one about UConn Football sometime after the 2023. Some well known UConn Twitter Big East-phile got on there and went off on how UConn "we will never be Georgia". Her diatribe was so bad that listening to it, I nearly sprained my eyeballs. Her understanding of college football was so poor it was amazing.

When it was my turn I asked her a question directly which was something like: "I know we can't be Georgia, but don't you think that in the right conference we would be better than Rutgers and Syracuse?". There wasn't a response.

These people are really dull and have a funny idea of the cause and effect of things.

That’s the fanbase. They want national titles or the hell with it. Rutgers and Cuse don’t win major titles in revenue sports. She probably thinks they are failures. In the case of Rutgers, she’d be right. Cuse has a historically good athletic department. She didn’t know or care.

The problem is, to keep winning basketball titles and playing in the College World Series, we need a major football program.

I was talking about Football, like we could be better at football than Rutgers and Cuse. Arguably we were as good or better before.

Great game and win. I loved every minute. My only critique is I wish they called a time out when UAB lined-up in an unfamiliar formation and scored a TD. If we called a TO, we would have adjusted and they would not have scored. Overall, awesome game.

Regarding student attendance, whatever. It was Halloween weekend. The stands will be full for Duke.

You know, in the right circumstances I suspect we could contend for a CFP spot. Some people are pretty ignorant of our athletic history. And in 1983 if you asked even the most committed UConn basketball fans, they would have said “we will never be Kansas (or North Carolina, Syracuse or Georgetown, or heck, St John’s even). That wasn’t even a goal. UConn wanted to get into the NCAA Tournament. That was it. In fact, it wouldn’t even be considered to ask such a question. But yeah, we aren’t Georgia.

Right, I understood that. She doesn't care to be Rutgers or Cuse or a bit better in football. She figures if we can't be Georgia or Alabama in football, then why play it? That's the spoiled baskeball centric fan.

They miss the whole big picture that without football, basketball eventually fades away too.

Halloween on a Friday night, followed by a 12:00 kick off in East Hartford. Students weren't in bed by 8:00am, let alone awake and ready to catch a bus. There are some things to clean up defensively, but UConn is bowl eligible. Enjoy the win.

IIRC, the last time there was a home game following Halloween night, the game kicked off at 7:00 pm. It was really windy on Halloween and large pockets in Eastern CT lost power overnight.

I too was concerned about UAB after losing to Rice. Happy to report that my concerns were unwarranted. Nice start by the offense and they kept it going all game.

Joe had a few high passes early but then improved. One of his best passes was to Bell that should have been caught for a TD but dropped by Bell. Joe has improved his passing while rolling out to the right. Other players of note were Bell, Edwards, Neider and Juice. Chadwick had his best game as a Husky with 3 INTs and a sack. I’ll ovelook the blown coverage on UAB’s first TD.

Now, let’s beat Duke.
I knew we'd show well this now past week... It's those road games that worry me... We're a problem at home... On the road, it seems like we get a little complacent... The only game on the road we didn't look as shaky was the BCU game... We did what we were supposed to do when ahead in the 2nd half...
With that said, I hope we realize that we can finish out this year with all wins, IF we don't look past anybody... Our offense will lead the way... just need the D to make a few plays... late...

There are far too many who are still stuck viewing the correlation of Ollie mailing in his head coaching duties after winning a title with causation of somehow not being in the Big East was the downfall of the men's basketball program.

I agree that basketball here in Storrs is #1.. Will always be... If we get football (which it looks like we finally are) that's just a bonus...

Shout out to my man KO... Yes he lost the team and it was time for him to go, but he wasn't the issue to our downfall.. check with Disco and Edsall 2.0...

Agreed. Imagine telling someone back in 1985 that UConn would become the gold standard in WBB ...

They're all different sports, granted, with their own unique circumstances and challenges. But Alabama was once bad at football, too. The right time and right place, maybe a little luck ... who knows? Not saying we would (or need to) become a perennially ranked team. But as the situation currently stands, I would be very happy for UConn football to be a program that is in the top 50 every year and seen as a "big time" legitimate threat in every game.

Better still, imagine telling someone back in 1985 that our men's program will be behind only UCLA and Kentucky in titles with their lifetime.

And that's why I continuously hope for FB to succeed.
