So sounds like the DB should have played it differently by moving a little farther back pre snap and not committing until the ball was thrown. May still have resulted in a big play but maybe not a TD. IDK.
I'm sure the play is drawn up that if the DB doesn't try to jump the screen, the QB throws the screen and then the two lineman block downfield for him anyways and he still breaks it. The play was just doomed. The way it happened was Cam tried to make a play and got blocked 4 yds deep into the sideline before the ball was even thrown and because of the lame ass rules that favor the offense, it's "legal".

It didn’t take a rocket scientist to count that they had 4 people out wide and we had on different plays 2 or 3 defenders. If you give the offense an extra player and a play which the defense isnt’ aware of, big plays shouldn’t be shocking.

Very clear we have a large vocal contingent that only likes to come out after a loss to proclaim:
A) our program isn’t worthy so shut it down
B) this is why we’ll never get a P4 invite
C) mora should be fired
D) our coordinators should be fired

None of the folks that were all making those comments last week have posted this week.

so much easier not dealing with the insufferable fan who can’t be pleased.
Not sure the word fan applies to those posters that you are describing. The better word might be troll. Most of them are men's BB fans only who don't go to the football games and don't care about the program .Yet, they some how get delight by trashing the football program. As a fan of all the Uconn programs, I will never understand the Uconn trolls on this website. But that's just me. On to the Duke game.

Why a 180 lb DB though he'd get through offensive linemen from that close is hard to wrap my head around. He ran right into that block... it was more funny than upsetting in the context of the game at that point.

Just a personal gripe for me. I hate the blocking that's allowed at the line of scrimmage on screen plays. I'm aware a heavy dose of our plays take advantage of the same rules, it's just with all the advantages offenses have with all the penalties and ticky tack fouls that are called, this one basically prohibits a defensive player an opportunity to make a play on the ball unless he can see the future. Certainly an old man yelling at cloud argument from me.

Some interesting observations:
1) UConn did not run out of the tunnel. They gathered near the entrance and started one on one hittting drills.
2) #21 Graves gave us the burner out of the backfield replacement for Mel Brown. Good to get him action without burning the redshirt.
3) Smith in the wildcat was a new wrinkle and something to build off of.
4) some of our downfield passes require the Oline to hold up a very long time. They usually have 2 guys going down the sideline against zone and one goes toward the post and the other to the sideline. They are very effective as Neider and Bell had great production off of them.
5) the dl takes the worst angles to a qb i have ever seen. They made the backup qb look like Fran Tarkenton(for the young uns, look him up on you tube).
6) student section has to fill up at least half a section. Long gone are the days they caused Pitt to have 3 false starts due to noise.
7) we have a lot of good tight ends!
Meant to point this out on chat, it moves too fast for my slow fingers though. Seems as though every rush, blitzing or otherwise pushed to the outside leaving the middle wide open for young Mr Tarkenton.

The pregame is weird. Starting with the 40 second countdown of "ready or not, here I come, you can't hide...." Like 40 seconds? Then you get to zero and instead of the team running out, it goes to a narrated video intro for like another minute in the opposite direction of where the team runs out from... then it goes into AC/DC.. like, put the narration first.. then your countdown from like maybe 15 seconds instead of 40? Then let the guys run out.
The band stayed on the field throughout that as well. They usually vacate 5 minutes earlier.

After the team came out of the tunnel pregame they did something i had not seen before. Lineman lined up in 2 rows facing each other and Coach Sammis gave them the go to hit each other in a small version of an Okie type drill. Sammis went down the line to each pair of players. I think it was to fire up the players to get out to a fast start and be aggressive. It worked.

Understanding (most of) them isn’t hard. They blame the football program for remaking the old Big East into the American and not asking to go with the Catholic schools into the new Big East.

well, in all fairness, it's not really 13 points in the sense that that last touchdown they awarded UAB was not touchdown. I'm sorry but not it was not.

And anyone getting too worked up about the final score, OMG so many more important things to worry about.

Like Delaware loss not looking as bad as we thought - they are 4-3 and look decent.
Ref had the over on a 7 leg parlay. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Great win by the fellas. Great job by Mora and company, getting us 3 bowls in 4 years with a program that was on life support.

As for the attendance; I'm guessing that the Duke game will be a much higher attendance in all sections. Close to 30k is my bet. A winning team playing against a recognizable name. I'm guessing Duke was included in almost every "3-game package" that was sold...

Attendance will be better. But would it kill the athletic dept to put in some actual work to make sure it is? I don’t see much urgency online by the UConn AD big wigs to push sales and promos. It needs to be sustained all week. My guess is they are too focused on hoops starting this week. Duke and Air Force are appealing names and it’s the last 2 times to get to see arguably the best wide receiver and quarterback in school history.

36k and over? And then maybe you’ll make love to Sidney Sweeney?

There was nowhere close to 15k fans in the stadium today on a mild fall day with a winning team that is scoring points every week.
Had to seat geek my 3 tickets in the upper deck because of my kid's soccer game. Lowered the price to $4 on Saturday morning, still couldn't sell 'em.

Does anyone know what the capacity of the student section is?

A couple years back, at the peak of their Twitter spaces (or whatever) one of the Cool UConn Basketball Online Guys (TM) got really mad when I insisted UConn as a a university overall has a lot more in common with Pitt or WVU than Creighton or DePaul, it’s weird.

Our defense is maddening because it very much plays "bend don't break." If you look at how many points we give up, we're pretty good. But the way we give up those points feels so death-by-a-thousand-cuts painful. Turnovers helped a lot yesterday.

We really do need to appreciate what we have, though. Our offense does such a good job of protecting the ball and our kicking game is outstanding, and we are the ninth least penalized team in FBS. So many things on this team are consistent, and that's a credit to Mora IMHO.

They are all extremely weird and smell funny.

I don't know what else they have to do, to be honest.

It's already really affordable in terms of live sports entertainment. On top of that, they sell 3-packs, they discounted tickets now that we're bowl eligible, I believe they have group rates, and my Facebook feed is always full of advertisements for it.

At some point, the "fans" have to be accountable for themselves and the fate of this program...

There will be a verry sizable showing v. Duke. When the program is winning and there are teams with some level of brand recognition or consequence, they show. You have to remember, it’s was pretty bleak for a good decade +.

I almost never miss a home game anymore, but had to miss this one for a family gathering. Just watched the replay this morning. Nice to have a low-stress win with a dominant performance. Fagnano looked great again. The D showed up for this one. 3 TDs for Skyler, 3 picks for Chadwick. Solid all-around win to get bowl-eligible and ready for Duke next week.

LOL. I’ve said that many times only to be told that Seton Hall and St John’s are universities. We are a major national university. The rest of the NBE save Georgetown are basically regional schools with men’s basketball programs. Most are little more than commuter schools.

I’m over the attendance complaints. Boise St didn’t have anyone in the stands for their game and that’s a football centric school with great tradition and spirit. Tons of P4 games have sparse attendance too. Times have changed. People watch at home…or in the car….or while camping in the woods….or while at their kids’s soccer game. The internet changed everything.

We need to be good and play name schools to fill seats. This is truly a spoiled fan base and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. If we never have a P4 schedule, we’ll never have the attendance people want. We’ve been there. We were sold out in the old Big East. We’ve got an elite, championship winning athletic dept and UAB doesn’t move the needle for our fans. Big deal. We all understand why, we just need to accept it. The B12 doesn’t need to see sell outs against Buffalo to give us an invite. All they need to do is look at how we showed up for Baylor and Iowa St etc. We’ll be there.
Exactly. Houston is a top 25 team in the thick of the Big12 race, and hosted WVU yesterday. Announced attendance was 25k, and people think there was maybe only 15k. It’s not just an us problem
