U19 World Cup | The Boneyard

U19 World Cup

First game of the World Cup went okay for the US as it won by 79 points over South Korea.

Saniyah Hall and Sienna Betts dominated. Kayleigh Heckel had 12 points. UConn POI Robinson also had a nice game.

Not to be picky, but it was by 81; 134 - 53 (47 + 34 = 81 for those who use differences from 100)

Betts and Heckel shot near perfection. Keep it going! USA! USA!! USA!!!

i noticed both greenway and harpring have a preference for azzi's on-court hairstyle. it's not real common. do fortune tellers see any significance?

US up 59-43 on Hungary at the half in game 2.

Betts, Davidson, Robinson, Harping, and Hall are all having an impact.

Heckel has 5 assists and 4 steals. She has also missed both her 3s and both her free throws.

Jasmine Davidson (JD) and Saniyah Hall are still lighting up the scoreboard, and Heckel tied for most time on the court with JD, and she started game #3 .

USA into the round of 16 after winning Group A by outscoring their 3 opponents by 185 points (UConn-esque in many NCAAs), and spanking Isreal by 74 pts: 114-40. Keep it going USA! USA!! USA!!!

USA plays China at 08:30 EDT tomorrow, 7/16/25 in the round of 16 (which is actually 14). The bracket is here:

Here is the link to the live game tomorrow (need to scroll down):

The US defeated France by just 5 point in the quarter final on Friday, 70-65.

Saniyah Hall led the way with 26 points and 6 rebs. Betts had 14 points and 11 rebs.

Kayleigh Heckel 13 points and 4 assists but also 5 turnovers.

The US shortened its rotation. Bjorn didn't play and Robinson and especially Harpring had rough games.

It's wild that these teams were facing each other in the quarter-finals when we're used to seeing them both in the medal round. Not sure if it did, but curious as to whether Mali's inability to compete had some effect on this. Spain was automatically placed in the quarter-finals as there were only 7 games in the round of 16.

France lost to Australia in the group stage. Had they won they would’ve been facing Canada instead of US.

Why do we need two threads on this competition?

I made this to keep track of UConn recruiting targets playing in the U19. Someone else made a thread on the main board, seemingly, to note that Heckel was playing in this tournament.

The US beat Spain 70-58 on Saturday to advance to the final.

The boxscore was pretty ugly though Bjorn made an impact in a short span.

Heckel had 6 steals. US committed 27 TO's.

Big difference when the other team doesn’t give you 40+ pts on to’s. The US passing and ballhandling is poor against any kind of defensive pressure. And the decision making isn’t good either.

And how many practices have they had as a team? Context.

Has nothing to do with practices. It’s about basketball skills, court sense, and ability to apply them. Remember, this is supposed to be a super team against countries the size of some individual states and populations.

I hate to disagree with (not really, as this is just a bad take by you). This team is pretty talented and many are not used to playing with as many other players as talented as they are. They all have to learn and get used to the speed and talent they all have. While it does or can look “sloppy” at times, most of the time, it shows the sheer talent this team possesses. Australia in particular has had significant more practice time and it shows but the US talent is so much better and deeper. I give credit to Moren and the staff.

On the roster for Australia it is noted that a number of their
players are from the "CENTER OF EXCELLENCE" in Australia. My
understanding is this is similar Sports Academies in America
(IMG and Monteverde come to mind). The "GEMS", at least a
number of them, have a good deal of experience with each
other that contributed to their fluidity, timing, and all around
quality of play. In passing: Spain over Canada by TWO in
a barn burner of a consolation game (70 - 68).

The US won the gold medal game 88-76 over Australia.

Heckel with her best game of the tourney: 16 points, 5 rebs, 5 assists

Saniyah Hall and Jazzy Davidson were the best players overall. Robinson didn't play for whatever reason.

Not sure if it's fair to compare Australia's Centre of Excellence against IMG and Monteverde. The Australian model is more similar to what France and Spain have in place as they operate under the national organization, where Monteverde and IMG are for profit organizations.

If Hall wasn’t a target before, she should be now. She was the only uncommitted player on that roster who consistently played well.
