USA could really use Katie Samuelson with Russia playing so much Zone. She would shoot Russia out of the Zone with her 3 point shot.

I think the US has hit one shot outside of 6 feet, that being Collier's jumper.

Are we sure that Staley isn't trying to recruit Slocum? Why else is she in the game?

Need Dangerfield back in the game. Collier, Wilson and Stevens need to play as long as they can breathe.

Collier is the ultimate playmaker. If one part of her game isn't shining on a given night she's still going to contribute in numerous other ways.

Stevens, Wilson and Collier have 38 of USA's 39 points. Russia has two of its stars with three Personal fouls. That could hurt them i the 2nd half. Thought Russia was the more composed team for most of the 1st half. They started to miss shots late in 2nd quarter which enabled USA to grab the lead.

Collier with 8 pts and 4 steals at the half. She's played all 20 minutes as has Moore.

Moore is the teams only SG. Hope she is taking some vitamins at half time.

Collier played all 20 minutes of the first half... 4-7 shooting (57%), 8 pts, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 assist, 0 turnovers..!! :)

Go Napheesa..!!

No 7 for Russia, their captain and leading scorer, has 3 fouls. Russia was able to get a lot of open looks in second quarter but couldn't hit their shots. Depth of US may be decisive.

I don't understand why Mariya Moore never sits. I'm not impressed with her overall play, and while she has 3 assists at half, she hasn't scored, she hasn't rebound and she has 2 turnovers. There is much better on the bench, but I'm thinking this is a bone thrown in deference to coach Walz.

Even though Thomas doesn't play what one would call a "shooting guard," her absence has hurt the the team depth. She'd have been another warm body to sub in at least...maybe pick up some rebounds or steals.

Too bad Durr couldn't play, too.

Wow!

Slocum gets the start in the 2nd. <<shocked face>>

In Slocum's defense, the team has done much better on the scoreboard with her in there.

Levchenko (spelling correct?) is a fun little point guard to watch. Agile, and playing more intelligently than her US counterparts so far.

edit: speaking of point guards, maybe Staley could consider putting one in, even if they haven't shown great stuff yet. :D

Collier looking fantastic. Solid in all aspects of the team game. Cannot wait till the season starts.
