Better rebounder, better shot blocker, better 1-on-1 defender. Probably end up at least as good a passer looking at the trajectory. She may not have quite as many offensive arrows in her quiver but I'd say she's at least very near Stewart as a prospect. I'd like to get some opinions from the professional prospect folks.

How many times have you watched Cox play and in how many different games? Just curious....

Perhaps I should have said that Durr and Cox played in a manner reminiscent of Diana and Stewie, who were among many Huskies over the illustrious UConn wcbb history who were "clutch," or "money" when the games were on the line.

Not all players have what it takes to really want to take that last tough shot. I have posted before that if there were a stat for number of buzzer-beaters, Diana would own it.

In the USA-Spain game, Durr did a spin move, hit a jumper and got fouled at a critical moment that evoked memories of DT. And I could sense that Durr and Cox had that very special quality that characterizes so many UConn players: the heart of a champion.

Geez, I hope they come to UConn!

Re Cox, if you only watched this game then it's really hard to have an opinion on her game, even in this game she made some crucial turnovers that could have cost more dearly. Passing is not her game IMO, she is no Dolson or Stewie, in fact that is why Holmes played over her in the other games. She did do what was needed IE blocked shots - best part of her game and was able to finish unlike her previous 6 games. I would project her as a 5 she will do well at it because she has a strong body but will need to improve shot selection and stop fading.

Agree with a lot of this but not on Cox' passing abilities. Most of her TO's were a result of rushed outlet passes into traffic. That's something that coaching and experience should fix. The fact that she's willing and able to make those passes conjures images of Dolson though. For a 6-4 sixteen-year-old she's an excellent passer.

Lighten up. I don't remember saying anything bad about KLS's game... all I said was I like Cox's game better, at least from what I saw in this game. She brought tremendous energy on both end of the floor.

You stated the obvious. Everybody who watched the game knows she was far and away the USA's best player in the championship game. It might have meant more if you had mentioned who was the best player through all the games, someone who hurt her ankle, was out for two or three exhibition games due to an illness and who played the most minutes of anyone despite all that. Katie Lou led the team in scoring and three point shooting. Give a complete picture not a partial one and I'll lighten up.

Then you really haven't watched her or maybe it's something else? Hmmmmm!
KLS will do whatever it takes and whatever the coach wants her to do, being from the west and attending HS, AAU and always watching USA as I have been very interested in a lot if foreign players as we are currently recruiting Dubei from Hungary. This kid can play and not only that but knows herself what she needs to work. You isolate some instances where she is clearly not 100% and where there is a whole team doing the same thing as you are isolating. What other player could be asked to play the point where she was needed having last year played the 3 and the 4. She plays those minutes as the coach needed her on the floor even though she herself wasn't at full strength.

I remember watching another player used in the same way from my local backyard, I called her a competitor not a basketball player. Every player has things they need to work but not many are willing to take on the challenge of playing out of their comfort zone.

That player also had the courage to go to Uconn and I see the same in this kid.

Cox will be a fine player if she gets the right coaching. As we have seen with many posts, there are nt many programs that can develop them.

Cox will be a real good BB player.in fact she is now!..But his game is probably not a good gage of her talent,I don't think anyone on the gray teams"top of head" is above her shoulder,pretty much a mismatch under the bucket.

How many players her size do you think she's likely to go up against in college? Sure, some 6-7 behemoth might cause her trouble just as BYU's Harmon did to Dolson and Stewart, but that's a rarity.

Watch the game. Cox moves around defenders to score. She makes numerous good passes from outside. She does other things that have little or anything to do with sheer size.

You were the one suggesting we couldn't gage her talent from her performance due to a size difference. By that standard you couldn't gage her talent against 97% of the competition she has or will face.

Nancy Mulkey has 5 inches on Cox. Why doesn't Mulkey show off the skills and ability that Cox does, or more since she's much taller?

Saying extra height gives some players built in advantages is one thing. Saying you can't tell a player's ability because she's not facing players her height is another.

That's baloney. You can tell if someone is a player. I'll go way back to when I was in high school when our team played against Mike Gminski. He was 6'10' or so and our center was 6' 2". He scored over 40 points and didn't miss more than a couple shots. Yeah, he was dominant size-wise. Even so you tell that the guy was freakin' good.
