All Tied at 9-9 end of 1st Qtr. USA has made 3 baskets out of approx 16 attempts. Poor game shooting and running offense.

I like Cox as a rebounder, especially the way she outlets

USA now up on 15-14

.-.
Dangerfield took a shot. First time I've seen that.

One point game became six point game in a blinck

Another nice rebound and outlet by Cox

I thought they assigned the numbers by height, so why is Mulkey #14. My guess is that the others were all assigned, and she was the alternate, so she took 14 form whomever had it before, who must have been between 6' 3" and 6' 4"

Wow someone told Dangerfield to shoot

.-.
All Tied at 27-27 at the Half.

USA had a 24-16 lead and with their poor play, no rebounding, fouling allowed Canada to tie the game. I know I'm being critical, but they are playing another team of 16 year olds. Canada's length seems to be bothering USA and if they don't improve their play they could lose

USA 2-6 Free Throws Canada 8 - 11

Go USA

A lot of individual play by a few players that I can see. Bring the ball down and drive one on three or shoot without even looking for an open player. Obviously Canada has some talent vs the other teams in this tournament.

Maybe I'm culturally deprived, but I was surprised to see the two refs kissing before the start of the second half. Is that common? (I I do realize it is less common in the US, but it still surprised me)

ochoopsfan I've been surprised that Brazil can put together such a strong national team, yet not so much at the younger ages. Do you have any insights? Is it simply that USA starts earlier, so has a head start at younger ages?

USA playing much better so far in the 2nd half. Lead Canada 41-31 with 6 minutes left in 3rd qtr.

.-.
oops, a one point game became a 13 point game. The scorekeeper tried to give Durr's three to Canada, but corrected it

I'm really liking Cox under the basket, both ends.

Canada hasn't scored in a long time, (which is guaranteed to change that situation.)

Nice feed to Cox

Canada can't buy a basket, they've missed open layups, and a couple point blank shots, but finally get a free throw to go in.

Canada went 8:09 without a basket.

Nice move by Durr

USA already scored 27 points in the 3rd Qtr. Playing great defense & Asia Durr took over the game at the start of the 3rd qtr.

USA leads 58-34 end of 3rd qtr. Canada scores 7 points in qtr, USA 31. Coaches got their attention during half time. :). Played great defense. Samuelson 6 -6 on 3 point shots. Cox with 9 blocks. Both are records.

.-.
USA has scored 48 points in just over 13 minutes

That's a pace of almost 150 points per game.

So it is defense and offense

USA Wins 82-48 Completely blew out Canada in 2nd half USA's starting 5 got their act together playing great defense and hitting their shots.

Karlie Samuelson was 8 - 8 on 3 point shots for the game.

Cox can do it all, nice drive

I like this Lauren Cox and hope UConn is big in her plans. 2016 is still along time before she gets to college.

Interesting stuff on Cox's Bio from the USA Basketball site:

  • Has played one varsity season at Flower Mound High School in Flower Mound, Texas, where she set the single-season rebounding (375) and blocked shots (124) record and the blocked shots single-game record (11).

  • As a freshman in 2012-13, started in all 33 games and averaged 13.6 ppg., 11.4 rpg., 1.7 apg., 1.9 spg. and 3.8 bpg. to help her team to a 25-9 record; shot 39% from the field, 13% from 3-point and 60% from the line. needs work
  • Has played in the summer for North Texas United since 2010, has placed fifth at AAU nationals.
  • Plays volleyball, was a district and all-area newcomer of the year in 2012-13; also competes in track and field, claimed district and area titles in shot put and discus.

Durr picked up the MVP award. She's gonna be one to follow.

Sorry missed your response yesterday. No insights for Brazil, however, I have to believe WBB is third behind Soccer and VBall down in Rio land. Not sure why the older teams get better with not so strong U16 teams, perhaps structure and coaching levels in Brazil are not that strong at young ages and/or more girls who are playing other sports turn to WBB because they cant qualify to make National teams in Soc and VBall.

Ok, thanks for your thoughts. Sounds plausible.
