one thing I've always wondered about - considering how great the Big Red U-C-O-N-N cheers are at basketball, why are the football stadium ones so weak?

To many young girls there getting up and down going to the concessions spending their allowance money. We sat near a group in section 122 that couldn't sit still. Luckily they were not in our line of sight for the game. They have no clue or care who Big Red is and what he did for Basketball. It is a family event.

Just once I want to hear 40,000 screaming that cheer.

*ConnHuskBask obligatory rant about how the cheer leaders suck and how Big Red is a legend*

Because it is only great when it is "time"...they force it on us. It was great at ND, it was great in Birmingham. Big Red picks his spots. He should absolutely be in control of it. Point the camera at him, and watch the difference. Don't make it a manufactured thing after a score (or do, but put Big Red up on the board on tape or something).

I think you nailed it. He picks his spots. And the spot is always when there's opponent blood in the water.

I tried to start one after the first 4th down stand on Saturday and like 5 people in my section joined in. So many people at these games are embarrassed to cheer because cheering goes against the culture of this fanbase.

They used to do it in 241 in the early days. That dude in the argyle sweater used to get our crowd going. Never understood why he didn't wear UCONN gear or where he went...(maybe he is HFD?)...

there's a guy in 123 who tries to do it - used to have a lot of success but I noticed people are ignoring him this year, probably because of what's happening on the field.

Apparently Michigan won't be the day because according to their fans they're bringing 20k.

That was businesslawyer. He just writes the blog now. ;^)

This cheer has to be started by fans. The announcer-led version always goes over poorly, even at hoop games. They have to give it up.

I agree - when I see Big Red standing up, I think * YEAH LET'S DO THIS!!!*
