Magnificent! I feel little sympathy for his employer school - the hire was a gimmick and they got a different bang for their buck than they counted on. The Tenn fan base, and their appreciation for all things Summitt ... yeah I feel for them.

As Voepel observes in her article, it boiled down to a gamble, with the dual hope that (a) the media attention would help jump-start a reversal of the program's slumping profile among fans and recruits, and (b) hopefully this Son of Pat can actually run a program and coach. There seemed to have been some limited success with (a), and it took a mere 2 years to face-plant on (b).
I feel way worse for the La Tech fan base than the one in Knoxville. I'm sure that the Vol Nation's anguish over Tyler's downfall is far outweighed by their relief that it didn't happen on their watch. In Ruston, meanwhile, their once-mighty program is now reduced to an embarrassing punchline. If they thought quiet mediocrity was bad, they now know it can always get worse.
