Just out of general curiosity, I decided to take a look at the conference schedule for both AAC and Big East during the 2018-19 season and the networks that each game appeared on and on which days.

For the AAC, they had

5 games on ESPN (4%)
14 games on ESPN2 (13%)
33 games on ESPNU (31%)
15 games on ESPNews (14%)
14 games on ESPN3 (13%)
2 games on CBS (2%)
25 games on CBSSN (23%)
and
0 games on Monday
4 games on Tuesday
26 games on Wednesday
21 games on Thursday
1 game on Friday
32 games on Saturday
24 games on Sunday

For the Big East, they had

14 games on Fox (15%)
50 games on FS1 (56%)
8 games on FSN (9%)
2 games on CBS (2%)
16 games on CBSSN (18%)
and
2 games on Monday
10 games on Tuesday
29 games on Wednesday
2 games on Thursday
2 games on Friday
30 games on Saturday
15 games on Sunday

FS1 is pretty heavy with the Big Ten on Monday's and Friday's. Pac-12 mostly on Thursday's.

I know the list above is conference games, FOX did end up with 19 Big East games.

Thurs/Sun Games
AAC: 45
BE: 17

Weekend Games
AAC: 57% on Saturday
BE: 66% on Saturday

Villanova--the marquee team of the league--played only two Sunday conference games in 2018, five Sunday games in 2019. Hopefully that shifts back to more Saturday games.

College hoops has always been a Mon/Tues/Wed/Sat sport, along with the occasional marquee Sunday game. Thurs/Sun are the leftovers slots for crappy conferences and teams. We are likely never playing another Thursday in-conference game and that is fantastic.

Thursday nights have long been NBA on TNT night--typically the best matchups of the week. Sunday is of course for football. We are finally getting back to the college hoops norm.

is there any way we can see what channels Nova played on last year? I imagine we will be close to their numbers in terms of splits between Fox, FS1, FSN (what is that??), and CBSSN

Ignoring the FS2 games?

15 men's non-conference Big East games were on FS2. That was November Saturday's when college football is on FS1. Or when FS1 already had Big East games during the week. This year might be interesting to see where the FSN games go to.

FOX Sports Networks is regional sports networks. Like the Brewers and Bucks on FS WISCONSIN. Or the Celities and Bruins on NESN.

okay yeah that it 10000x better than the crap we've had. I would sign up for that in a heartbeat. Thanks!

People have to realize though that Villanova had a good basketball team.

How did ESPN treat UConn when UConn was good? It was on ESPN/ESPN2/CBS 14-16 times 2 years in a row.

There's also the ratings issue.

Considering channels I have (and most people with the "starter" or equivalent cable package):

BE: 73% of conference games on Fox, FS1 or CBS
AAC: 32% of conference games on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, or CBS

I mean, come on.

For everyone whining about the loss of our ESPN exposure, the entire conference had 5 conference games on ESPN proper.

This is not a whine. I am not whining about it.

But the lack of ESPN coverage is what happened when UConn bball went down the tubes. In the first few years, UConn was featured as much as all but 4 other teams in the entire country.

The term ESPN is too wide used. ESPN averaged 1.2 million viewers last year for college hoops. Thanks, to Duke and Kentucky games.

ESPN's average over ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU was 410K. So, playing on ESPN2 and ESPNU drags that number down.

ESPN2 has more subscribers than ESPN.

Take ESPNU out of the equation and see what you get.

The 14-16 number for UConn in the first few years of the AAC was from games on ESPN, ESPN2 and CBS.

If we are ever going to get more Sat. night home games at XL we have to fight the men's hockey team and the Wolfpack for the venue unfortunately.
