Last year's defense was a puzzle. In 2011, UConn's defense generated 31 turnovers one of the best performances in FBS. In 2012, the defense generated just 12 turnovers, one of the worst performances in FBS. Interceptions went from 18 in 2011 to just 6 in 2012. Fumbles recovered went from 13 in 2011 to 6 in 2012. Same defense. Same DC. Most of the same players. Go figure.
As for turnovers lost, UConn lost 23 turnovers in 2011 and lost 26 turnovers in 2012. Both were above average, but not among the worst in FBS.
