Tunes you digging right now

Totally, that's what I love about them. They just rock out and it always sounds fresh.

Wilco is another major indie band that came out at the same time who I liked early on but they got incredibly stale and boring for me.
Couldn't agree more on Wilco. I remember, as a young lad, working retail at American Eagle. The seasonal soundtrack had 3 or 4 tunes from YHF (along with Travis, The Shins, etc.), that was such a great era for indie music. Wilco seems to still be riding off the acclaim for that album, they don't do much for me. As you said, just meh and uninteresting.

Spoon can go out of their comfort zone, put out an album like Hot Thoughts, kill that then come back and give us an absolute gem like Lucifer. They are definitely the torch bearers from that era, along with Bon Iver and a few others.

Angine de Poitrine…two man band out of Quebec.

This may/may not be your cup of tea, but is a fun watch at least for a few minutes for the performance art aspect and the musicianship/skill.

Drummer is in the pocket. Guitarist plays a microtonal guitar/bass combo. Does live loop recordings to “build” the song up. This is VERY hard to do.

I'll tell you what, I finally gave this band their first album a spin while driving round trip from Norwalk and Stamford during rush hour and it made it feel alive.

I don't have a ton of microtonal knowledge, but this band has figured it out theory-wise and some of the stuff they put together is really mind-blowing. Would love to see this group live even though I really like their studio stuff too.

It really is pretty wild stuff.

At times, in a few of their songs, it can get a little repetitive, but it's repetitive EAR WORMS.

I've watched some of the recordings of their live shows on YouTube, and there are some real great "live jam band" moments beyond their studio recordings that are pretty impressive.

I'd love to try to catch them if they make a swing through New England at some point. Though since they've now "blown up" it'll be a tough ticket, no doubt.

Them opening for Primus would be a must-see show.
