Like everything else related to this year's Huskies, haiku ain't working. Rather than trying the same thing and hoping for a different result, I introduce "tanka," which consist of five units, usually with the following pattern: 5-7-5-7-7. The 5-7-5 is called the kami-no-ku (“upper phrase”), and the 7-7 is called the shimo-no-ku (“lower phrase”). Thus:

Winless in Tulsa
Winless in the conference
Something has to give
Which will cause us more concern:
Game or bombogenesis?

Slow starts still killing
Gene Hackman said it the best
We need heart, miles
And miles for this new year
Are we just a 1/1er

Not quite a haiku
But instead it's something new
A fresh start of sorts
Maybe a refresh in sports
Something going on in Storrs

we can be thankful
for our phenomenal past
and mourn our present
if we don't make changes soon
kiss future success goodbye

There's a game tonight?
Totally forgot again.
Damned lethargic team.
Alas I may miss the game
Or I won't, I just dunno.

Another dark gym
Can not play in front of chairs
So many excuses
Please just get a freaking win
New year new UConn Huskies.

Tulsa Tanka, huh?
I hope it's Tulsa doing
the tanking, and not
The UConn Huskies, symbol
of Might to the Foe. Let's go!

Old dogs meet new tricks
If I can switch to Tanka
Huskies can change too
Larrier should catch and shoot
And Ollie should work the refs
