Well she is fourth on the team at this point in makes, so she isn't taking the most shots. Now the fact that she is hitting .440 is really good and 100 points above her career average - would you be happier if she were shooting her normal .340 and Moriah and Saniya Chong were leading the team at .415 and .417?
I'm not sure my happiness with the team matters. Coach Auriemma's on the other hand...

Lou's defense is improving dramatically. Other than one time tonight when her player got free and knocked down a 3 she was really solid on D. Pheesa also looked good on D. She always was pretty good on one on one defense but she often is in the wrong place or looks like she doesn't know where she is supposed to be but not tonight.

Katie Lou should have driven into the lane or taken a few steps toward the basket to take a shot. I don't think she missed a mid-range jumper. She seemed determined tonight to shoot threes. I've read where Geno wants her to keep shooting but, she plays so much better when she adds the other parts of her game.

Overall I don't agree. She came in with a rep as a 3pt shooter. Yes would love to see all parts of her game- but would love it if she hits 3's. I don't agree "she plays better when she is doing other things. . . . " Then only reason we say that is because she misses a lot of 3's.

As Geno said we could be at a disadvantage in NCAA's vs a team that nails 3's and we don't. The only way to get better and alleviate that concern is to keep trying.

I only got to see a portion of the game last night at the end of each half. A couple of observations:

The team is playing offense really well in terms of movement and passing. Not all of the shots are falling, but they are getting the looks they should be and are scoring more than enough to beat most teams. Lou seems to shoot better when she releases the ball quicker (the mid range jump shot) vs her where she squares up and "hops" to release the ball. Perhaps as she gets stronger and doesn't need the hop to push the three ball her percentage will increase.

The defense seems to be coming together and is beginning to look like they are playing more to the level of last year's team at this point in the season. Not sure how much of this efficiency on offense and defense is a function of how good they are playing or how poor the competition is, but from past seasons it appears that the level of competition doesn't affect how team plays. Based on history, that tends to indicate they are playing really well.

I love the way the UConn women play basketball. Watching the way they move on the court is a joy to behold, especially if you watch what is going on away from the ball. However, games like last night aren't too entertaining and have no drama to them. It's like watching a practice.

I thoroughly enjoyed last night's game because I watched the execution of the various combinations. For instance, Butler has flashes of excellent play but it is not consistent. An remember all of this is without Tuck who we all believe is an AA. It is clear to me that Lou is the one player we have who can float around like Stewie and create her own shots or drive to the rim. I'm referring tour players who will return next year. Plus Gabby hi a couple o mid range jumpers last night.!!! Awesome growth.

Maybe I should have said she seems to score better when she expands her game. When the same kind of shot is not falling it would be smart to do something different. I would love to see her hitting her threes more consistently also. Everybody would.

I'm sure she'll work hard on it over the summer. She has to, because on most of her misses she's not close which as Geno has said is a sign of a poor shooter, and even Kara last night noted some things with her mechanics.

Did she become a poor shooter at UConn ? What happened to her mechanics that made her such a great shooter in high school and even had some people here predicted before she arrived that she will eclipse KML 3-pt total ?

I posted this on another thread, but appropriate here, too. Notice how many minutes Lou had last night: as in the last 3 games, significantly more than anyone else. Since Geno is investing heavily in her, I'm going to sit back and enjoy watching her development.

That's a fair question. If you watched KML shoot, it was a thing of beauty. Perfectly smooth, one motion, simply gorgeous and textbook.

If you watch Lou shoot the 3, it seems she has a tiny hitch in her shot and I'm not sure if that's different than what it was in High School. I can't speak to what happened, if anything, but Lou's shooting motion is not like KML's...

That's a pretty ridiculous expectation seeing that KML hit more threes than anyone in Div I WCBB history. KML hit for .384 her first year and Lou is now at .320 after a real slow start. No she didn't become a poor shooter she became a Div I freshman. Big difference from High School. The pace of the game is faster and there's a lot more to do than shoot threes or she would never see the court in Geno's system. With her height it would be a waste to ONLY have her play on the perimeter. Stewie was darn good from three in High School and yet at UCONN her percentage hasn't been over .400 until this year. And to use your term, "Some people here" wanted her to stop shooting threes. I for one am glad she didn't. I'm sure Lou will be just fine.

I was just stating what some people here expected from Lou before she showed up, breaking KML 3-pt record. Do a search for yourself and see. I am a huge fan of Lou and I think she should not hesitate taking any shot when she is open but I am really puzzled at a lot of her wide open 3-pt attempt that has nothing to do with the speed of the game. On top of that her misses are both long and short and offline. As far as Stewie being darn good from three in high school, may be you should do a search of her high school stat before stating like it is fact.

Stewie was good enough to get the green light to shoot them. And why not? I don't doubt that it was said by some on here (About KML's record) although the general tone of your posts would seem to indicate you are in that camp. Again IMO Lou will be just fine.

" I am really puzzled at a lot of her wide open 3-pt attempt that has nothing to do with the speed of the game."

Before you state that like it is fact you might want to check with people who coach and play in Div I. There's more to the impact of the "Speed" of the game than having a defensive player flying at you while you're shooting. Playing at this high a level these kids minds are going a mile a minute. There's lot for them to absorb the first year and mentally adjusting to that can have an enormous effect on confidence and relaxation while playing.

Karlie Samuelson is 9th in the nation at 45.1% from the arc. Lou will be in that range in time.
