Coach Stockton was very gracious in her praise of UConn's length and intensity and predicts that no team will be able to beat UConn this year....she also made a very interesting observation about Tulane's last 3 games vs UConn noting that her team did not attempt a single free throw in these games.....

Yes, very interesting. UConn has only total 4 PFs.

Coach Stockton pulled a Clemens and misremembered as her team went 3-5 from the foul line during their February 2nd home game vs UConn...must have been the home court advantage....

So... Basically they would have won 2 or 3 of them, except the refs gave them to UCONN?

As coach Stockon said... (paraphrasing) if we get up to their level, THEN I would be concerned about the free throw disparity.

Sorry - hadn't watched her presser. Pretty cool lady - hope she's telling recruits, "Come to New Orleans - it's PARTY TIME!!!"

Really like her and the attitude that she has toward the game. Part of the 'no free throws' is the intimidation factor against what is a much longer team and uconn did a good job of not fouling jump shooters - I suspect they did just a little work on that between games! I think there were maybe a few times in rebounding that might have been fouls and a few squeezing past screens that might have been called - but none of that would of led to free throws. And they just did not drive hard all the way to the basket most of the time.

And we play a tournament in a casino--indoors--in Connecticut against some players who will be WNBA All-Stars and Olympians. Sign me up!

"predicts that no team will be able to beat UConn this year."
this and $4.95 will get you a cup of flavored cappuccino.

She didn't exactly say that no one would be able to beat UConn this year. She said (paraphrasing) that as long as UConn plays with that level of intensity and energy, and shoots like that and shares the ball like that, no one will beat them. She's implicitly allowing for the possibility, and of course it's true, that UConn can be beaten if (and only if) they have a bad game.

Went to New Orleans to see the UCONN game this year - it's a great place to watch a game and a great time of year to go there. I hope they continue to build their program, if so I'll be happy to go there every year.

It was odd about not shooting a free throw in three straight games, but its not UCONN'S fault. UCONN doesn't have any control about calling fouls. That is all on the refs!

I thought Tulane was either intimidated, or Stockton needs to help her players develop quicker shots. There were several times when it seemed their players were open for a second with decent space enough to shoot, but just as quickly they looked to pass.

First of all, it's no secret that UConn is unequaled in its ability to defend without fouling. I am willing to wager that Tulane isn't the only opponent that has gone an entire game without visiting the foul line. People (including coaches) often fall for the logical fallacy that a discrepancy in fouls called or free throws taken indicates erroneous officiating.

Jeez! You went to The Big Easy to see a freakin' basketball game?!?

She acted as though no fouls were called. They never got to the bonus and weren't fouled in the act of shooting. It wasn't like UConn shot 30 free throws.
