Tues/Weds Tournament Games

Adam Lefkoe just cuts off Jay Wright while he's in the middle of his thoughts and then swings it to Seth Davis
Seth with his usual 0-2 picking last night. Word to all the gamblers out there: take the other side of Seth....you will win about 80% of the time. Still have no idea what qualifies him as an "expert" and he has one of those punchable faces to boot

Has there been a "good" team that's had their brains beaten in as much this year as Illinois? Multiple 20+ point losses. Maryland and Duke could name their score against them. I think 7 double digit losses...
Illinois is one of the best teams in the country when they're right. Too bad that they almost never are...and when they're bad, they're really really bad.

Xavier can absolutely beat Illinois. They can keep up with the scoring. They just have to play "enough" defense to slow the Illini down. And they showed they could do that in the 2nd half against Texas.

The Texas team is not that strong, and I would have expected X to have an easier time with them.
Tre Johnson was by far the best player on the floor last night.
X is Dr Jeckyl and Mr. H on defense. Sometimes they play like world beaters and other times, like UConn - all hands and arms and no feet.
The team that wanted it more however won the game. Terry exudes zero excitement or confidence from the sidelines
Because X is a NBE team, I hope they continue to rep the league well, but I still feel Miller should never be allowed on the bench of any basketball team - he's a scumbag cheat who was blatantly caught with his hand in the cookie jar and blamed it on everyone else but the person who was recorded by the FBI on tape.
Texas was shooting the absolute bajeezus out of the ball last night, especially in the first half. I don't think many teams would have faired much better...Texas was just playing out of their minds for the first 25 minutes of the game.

I was shocked that Texas has made 31 of the past 36 tournaments. I've always considered them a middle of the road program.
Well, they really haven't had any teams that have been considered "contenders"...Rick Barnes made sure to squander that away from those few teams that were the closest to contender status.

They've only made 1 Final Four since 2000 (2003) and 3 Elite Eights (2003, 2008, 2023). They have a slew of first round losses in that time frame. So they basically are "middle of the road"...nothing special until they prove otherwise.

So you want to have it all ways. They didn't beat anyone but the (at the time, iirc) #1 ranked team in the country but that doesn't count because it doesn't fit my narrative.

Oh and they beat the Big East regular reason and tournament champs (something UConn couldn't do on two opportunities) but that doesn't count either because reasons. (Nor does Kentucky, I'm sure.)

I am not arguing that they are a great team. But you can't say they did nothing when they beat two top ten teams along the way (and a fair number of games against teams in the tournament). They belong in the tournament.

I didn't say they did nothing. They had some wins and they had a lot of bad losses. Not so much to bad teams, as 8 double digit losses, including a few real beat downs. That tells me they are very inconsistent and if they get hot against a good team that has a bad day, like they did against Florida, they can win.

By the way, St. Johns shot 10% from 3 in that loss and only 31% overall. If St. Johns played like that against UConn we'd beat them by 16, not 3. Marquette shot well against them and beat them by 11. Similar to the other wins, Kentucky shot 24% from 3 and 37% overall against UGA. UGA did win that comfortably, so credit to them.

I really do not get the fascination with a big win or two. Seton Hall beat UConn. They did in 2023 too. Were they good? Don't you need to look at the details? It was in Athens. Florida had a horrible shooting night and UGA shot 54% for the game and 55% from 3. Built a 26 point lead and almost blew it.

The first time we beat Marquette it was because we made everything, and the 2nd time we beat them it was because they had their worst shooting game from 3 in the entire season. So do those not count? That's how college basketball works, teams don't play consistently. You're basically saying ignore the results of the games and just go with my opinion, which is laughable. Bringing up Seton Hall is not even trying to have a real discussion.

I'm hearing that Terry is likely to be canned and Miller is a candidate for successor

What is Xavier's prize for beating Texas? Losing their coach to Texas
I actually heard some idiot on Mad Dog sports talk radio suggest that Danny Hurley would strongly consider taking the job. It was the host sitting in for Adam Schein and the guest who was the expert quickly dismissed a Hurley move to Texas.
