Trying to restore sanity

1) Colorado is one of the worst power conference teams and that was already clear when UConn played them so to even have a loss against them is not good. 2) Outside of the Memphis game Karaban playing like hot dog water in every single one of those close losses is cause for alarm considering you can't expect any kind of consistent good play from him.

After back-to-back I'm good with just making the tourney and any win will be enough for me, but given what we've seen this season you kinda expect how this season will end...

I'll take a different position- Gotta go with the guys you have and try to turn it around. NCAA Champs- Probably not- Dangerous team in the Tournament who can take out some higher ranked teams. Absolutely.

You're bumming me out -But you be you

Based on UConn's defensive metrics I would have never guessed this. So do they just really suck everywhere else on that side of the court?

1. Elite high-major rim defenses

UConn, armed with Donovan Clingan, leaned on the best rim defense in the sport all the way to the National Championship last year. Dan Hurley welcomed opponents to try and attack the basket, and Cling Kong usually sent 'em packing.

The second weekend was also littered with teams with dominant rim defenses like Clemson, North Carolina, Houston, Tennessee and Creighton.

So, who are the top 10, high-major rim defenses so far this year?

  1. Tennessee: 46.9%
  2. UConn: 49.2%
  3. Arizona: 49.5%
  4. San Diego State: 49.5% (the Aztecs are a high-major-caliber team; argue with a wall.)
  5. Saint Mary's: 49.8% (the Gaels are a high-major-caliber team; argue with a wall.)
  6. Auburn: 50%
  7. Illinois: 50.3%
  8. Houston: 50.6%
  9. Georgetown: 50.7%
  10. Florida: 50.9%
I do not think it's a coincidence that Auburn (tracking for a 1-seed), Houston (tracking for a 1-seed) and Florida (pushing for a 1-seed) all boast elite rim defenses.

Interesting. How is Creighton not in there? And if we are so good at rim protection, wonder why we don’t do more to pat down the three point % defense of which we’re currently 312th in the country. Would seem we should do more smothering there and giving up the rim take.

There’s a lot of top defenses on this list so correlative, and then there is us. Maybe a sign.

Second in blocks.

If we do make the dance, one thing I appreciate are the refs tend to keep whistles out of their mouths. We foul so much under the rim. I’m hoping that will be corrected / adjusted by March.
