I was just thinking about the injuries and transfers we have experienced since the 2007-2008 season.

2007-2008- Loss in National Semi-Final (ACL tears to Greene and Thomas)
2008-2009- National Champion (Doty ACL Tear in game 17, Elena Delle Donne "Transfers" or "Withdraws")
2009-2010- National Champion (Jessica McCormack "withdraws" would be Soph Season)
2010-2011- Loss in National Semi-Final (Samarie Walker transfers mid season)
2011-2012- Loss in National Semi- Final (Would be EDD and McCormack senior season)
2012-2013- ? (Banks ACL tear, Johnson and Engeln Transfer)

In summary, just looking at the last 5 seasons, not including this year, there have been many injuries and transfers. I know this is speculation in the extreme, but I think barring no injuries and transfers, uconn would be 5 time defending national champions.

WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN.

2007-2008- I think Stanford doesn't beat uconn with Greene and Thomas.
2010-2011- EDD and Maya Moore would not have been denied a championship. Even if Samarie Walker stayed, I think Uconn wins. Or McCormack. Uconn lacked post play and when Dolson got into foul trouble, it was game over. Even 36 from Maya couldn't save them.
2011-2012- Led by Senior EDD, Uconn would not have gone into OT vs ND. The shooting of EDD and KML combined with Hayes, Hartley, Dolson, and Faris. This team would have also created mismatches for Baylor. I think EDD would have perplexed Griner on defense.
2012-2013- I think Banks injury could be the difference down the road. I do not think the transfers of Johnson or Engeln will hurt besides rested legs?

In summary, Uconn came a few injuries and transfers short of an absolute dynasty. The same can be said for earlier teams in Uconn history, 2001 with Shea Ralph.

Just to put things into perspective.

Interesting, Rb, truly. The thing is this is not an imaginary time. Until proven otherwies, we've got a real team out there that we have hitched our wagon to go all the way. No dreaming about what-might-have-beens.
