Newton is going to be huge for this team, he does things nobody else on the team this year or the previous years did/can do. He's an awesome rebounder and he takes the board and pushes immediately, he has great size on the perimeter and the biggest thing is he's a machine at drawing fouls. The guy drives and drives and gets to the line. We simply haven't had that. It's insane anyone on the board would rather have Gaff than him. Newton does a lot of things RJ couldn't do.

That he fills up the stat sheet so much while his shot selection and shot is so off to start the season is a great sign. He's still figuring it out with his new team and he's dominating right now.

Definitely a coming out performance for him.

Anyone who doesn't think he's a PG after this should stop watching basketball.
That was one of the funnier discussions to watch. I can’t wait to see how AJ plays with him. It’s safe to say he hasn’t had a teammate who knew how to find him so far in his career.

Big fan of Newton’s game. Can’t wait until we’re healthy and he’s running the show. Wish SJ was healthy cause man that would be a huge starting lineup.

He held the ball well tonight and distributed even better. Love to see it.

No Hawk, Adama not playing well, shots not falling and get needed to be the man, and so he was. Hopefully this gives him plenty of confidence moving forward.

There’s a lot of dolts on here that should stop watching basketball.

He shows a lot of poise. He knows when to drive and has a knack for finding the ball on rebounds.

I still need/want to see with tougher competition. His shooting isn't there yet and we haven't played anyone. And he's not a Kemba or Shabazz just to name two of a few so I would have to disagree with the better then previous guards

In terms of getting to the line…

If he’s engaged, you’re right. He’s got a smoothness and feel for the game that not many of our guards have. Diarra and Alleyne are little bulldogs.

Sometimes he gets sloppy or looks less engaged, that’s when he’s average.

If he’s energetic and engaged AND making 3s (he hasn’t shot well yet) he’s gonna be our main creator and a real problem for opposing teams.

I like Newton. Even before the triple-double tonight. Last year in big games we struggled to hide Cole defensively. I'm hopeful that won't be an issue this year.

Its early, but overall I think our backcourt is both more athletic and faster than last year. Promising start.

And some who shouldn't type the first thing that comes to mind.
That's it. I was at the game and jumped into the chat room on occasion. It was mostly nuts and sounded just like the guys sitting behind me at the game. But we're all fans.

Dan Hurley said he drew 13 fouls. Wow. Total stat stuffing night if there ever was one. I'm really glad because so far I've been a bit tepid - I like his ability to draw fouls but he's struggled to drop shots (as has most of the team).

I know what you mean, Verne.
