I am more concerned with the system that is being created. You are having 17/18 year old kids being paid large sums of money by Online Gambling and Sportsbooks who also employ the coach as well (and I'm sure are involved with agents/etc). If we all don't know where this is going to end up, then we are just being naïve.
Are you implying point shaving / throwing games?

Here’s the thing with NIL.

1) UConn has never and will never be in play for the kids being bribed.

2) It’s really just the top 10ish schools who will be competing for that talent anyways. If that’s what rich donors want to throw their money at, then so be it.

3) There are a lot of kids out there who care more about playing football than money. Plenty will choose to go outside the P5 so they can spend their college eligibility actually PLAYING football. For $50K, some 3 stars may choose to ride the pine for 4 years at a P5 program. But no one is giving $50K in NIL deals to a 3 star kid who is going to ride the pine 4 years.

Definitely some good points. I wonder how long people will invest in kids just to help recruit. It’s one thing to pay a QB, but paying lots of players and not winning big won’t go over well for long. If Texas is paying big, so is Bama. Bama is still going to whoop Texas.

All you need is a couple more Spencer Rattlers to come along before these NIL deals relax a bit. Kid went from preseason heisman favorite to benchwarmer real quick lol

On sports radio in Florida a big story is that the number 2 recruit switched to Jackson State and Deon Sanders after verbally committing to Florida State in early 2020. He also considered Auburn and Georgia. Barstool offered more than $1 million in NIL endorsements.

Sorry, I tried to make thread OT but fumbled.
The guy belongs at JSU sounds like a doorknob

We have very quickly slid down the "slippery slope" from the original NIL program into the deep end of the swamp.

You have a kid getting paid $1MM by the employer of the teams coach, and whose employer just happens to be a large Sportsbook operation.

It won't take long for this to get really ugly really quickly.

Good, can't hurt us :)

Maybe we need to get a couple of casinos involved
