Gimme Pettiford and Diop.
Tahaad can start at either G spot or backup both. Diop can start at PF and split time at C with Reibe. They’d give us a lot of looks with their versatility.
I'm not opposed to Diop but I think his shooting/ability to stretch the floor is being a bit exaggerated. He took 26 3's all year and shot 30.8%. Reibe took 13 at the same percentage in half the minutes so pretty similar abilities in terms of stretching the floor

Pettiford shot less than 30% from 3 this year - don’t think that would work for us
Yes, he shot 30% from three and 40% from the field. He also scored 30 against Arizona, 29 against Arkansas, 28 against Tennessee, 27 against St. John's, 25 against Bama, 25 against Georgia, 21 against Vandy, 16 against Michigan.

He would be an incredible pickup for us.

We don't need 4 guys starting shooting threes all the time. We do need a physical freak athlete.

I chose the absolute wrong Diop game to watch, but it's hard for me to shake how horrible he was against Iowa St.

His FG% is also the second lowest of his career.
That comment is not really dispelling my point around your irrational disdain. Karaban is 0.2% off his freshman year (which was at way lower usage) and only appreciably below his sophomore year, where he played in one of the most efficient offenses we’ve ever seen. He’s been legitimately VERY good this year again. It’s just odd that you spend so much time talking about potential and development and then constantly disparage the guy that is actually producing at a level far beyond where the guys you focus on are right now.

AK is going to be incredibly hard to replace next year. He is so important to this team for about a million different reasons.

.-.
I understand this is a case of someone not literally being right.

But you’re also showing a game where he scored better and rebounded better than the guy people are currently terrified of him replacing next year. While shooting 50% from the field against one of the top teams in the country.

Just funny in the context of the conversation.
Not posting that at all as a knock on Stewart. I hope he's back and playing a key role next year. I've been high, and probably too high, on Stewart since he got here. I thought he'd be getting NBA interest after his sophomore year but that jump just hasn't happened consistently yet

Alex's legacy will be somewhat defined by this March run. If they don't make a material run, it will honestly be really hard to look at him as anything more than a 5th man role player on stacked rosters. In roles needing more than that, he creates a number of liabilities and work arounds. Amazing kid, but need to be realistic with what he is on the floor.
Alex was a starter and incredibly key piece on back to back national championship teams. His legacy is 100% not dependent on this tournament. This fan base has some truly wild and spoiled takes sometimes.

As a good kid and great ambassador of the program, can't say enough about him. As a stand alone basketball player that drives championships, he's not that. He's acted as a 5th man in some significant games for this team. It's easy to put the blinders on for exceptional humans, which he is.

He could have been replaced by 100 different players in those two years and those teams wouldn't have missed a beat.

He was a borderline top-100 recruit. His projection was never to be a #1 option on a great team. Sure, his inconsistency is frustrating, but you’re exaggerating and disparaging a huge part of our success recently.

You post too much, and you post things that people don’t like very often. Maybe take a day or two off.

Borderline top 100 recruit, and his lasting marks were during his frosh/soph years.

A huge part of that success were the 6 guys drafted off those two teams.

Again, I'd say if Alex wants a basketball legacy beyond being a nice role player on two stacked NC teams, he's got his chance right here.

But if you were watching those seasons, it was repeatedly said that NBA scouts were all over him

Can’t dislike this enough.

There are some comments that make me wish we still had old guys hanging people this time of year. The comment you responded to would have and should have made its author a candidate.
You really have to wonder how unfulfilled in life someone must feel in order to be so hypercritical of someone who has at a very young age already achieved more success than most can dream of.

This is the take of someone who doesn’t understand our offensive or defensive systems at all.

And that’s ignoring that he’s a 47/38/84 shooter for his career on volume. Truly awful take my man.

If he was he would have left. Let’s see where he goes in this draft. I think a decent chance he goes no earlier than the 50s, if at all. That’s my guess.

No one is discounting his part of those two amazing teams, as he contributed meaningfully as a role player. He will always be remembered as part of that magical run, just as Kevin Freeman was of the 99 team.

Also worth nothing that transfers are consistently improving shooting %s under Hurley. Makes me less worried about a guy like Pettiford.

Silas:
  • 3PT%: 37% --> 41% (+4)
  • 2PT%: 42% --> 48% (+6)
Tarris:
  • FG%: 52% --> 62% (+10)
Diarra:
  • FG%: 37% --> 42% (+5)
Cam:
  • 3PT%: +1%
  • 2PT%: +9%
Calcaterra: +10 3pt%

Typically the guys coming from pretty low level of competition like RJ, Tristen, Tyrese are keeping almost identical %s. Considering the step up in level of play, gotta consider it a win though.

Alex Karaban is a replacement-level player. That's some take.

People love to say over the top stuff to make a point. We call those people imbeciles.
Because every team has two or three guys who threaten having 50/40/90 years. I think not.

Or how many foul balls off the noggin from being a catcher

Well the offense is able to generate quality shots for players, that naturally gets them to shoot a better %. This hasn't been the case this year despite the seemingly high quality shots. Hopefully it turns around in the tourney

We're #104 in the country in 3pt%. Would like to see more volume shooting the rock from Silas/Ross than Solo. Silly to have your highest volume shooter be a guy hitting 30% from deep.

So now we’re going to denigrate KFree to try to save your point? Do you watch basketball at all? Not everyone who is important to a team is an All American candidate or a future NBA star. Alex is neither. That has not and does not make him easily replaceable.

Top 10 in points
Top 10 in total shots made
#1 in three pointers if he makes 1 this tournament
#1 in games and minutes played
#1 in true shooting percentage (accounts for 2P, 3P, FTs)

If a role player ends up being one of the top scorers in the history of your program, I want more role players! Where can we find more guys like that?

Alex is a very unique player. I don’t think we can look for a 1:1 replacement to plug in this offseason. Either Jaylin needs to majorly step up or we need to find an athletic bruiser in the portal (preferred option). We can’t play the same playstyle and expect someone to bring what AK brings. I’m not sure that player exists right now

I think his legacy has already been set and you need to find a new outlet to spew the garbage your fingers spit out.

Can we shut this down and reopen a Transfer Portal thread after the tournament?

Ill throw Malachi in there too.
