I think with the coaching change at Providence, the 'rules' change as far as taking transfers from a school.

You could argue not getting Pettiford cost us 2 national championships.

If he’s on the team last year instead of Mahaney there’s a real chance we would have three-peated.

And his play on a team like this would add a new ceiling to what we’ve been all year. You could argue we don’t get Silas if he’s here, but man, that was maybe the most consequential recruiting battle we’ve had in a while, even more than Flagg.

I think he would really hesitate taking from PC even moreso, given his relationship with RI. Maybe the fact English is gone makes it possible. Not sure. Keeping talent in the conference is a win for the league. If they can lock up a coach quick, maybe that guy can lure them back.

I am pretty sure we've seen the last of our non-athletic teams. Word is Hurley knows he needs to make the roster stronger and faster. He's got friends, including a couple of HOF coaches, telling him that. He also made his career having very physical and athletic payers that made up for their lack of skill with speed, power and hustle. The goal now needs to be players that have it all. Hopefully, our NIL coffers are up to the challenge.

The motion offense was new and took folks by surprise IMO. that offense needs smart players that can shoot. Defenses have adapted (holding, clutching, etc) so now it's time for the staff to evolve the offense again...maybe by getting more athletic

I think we need 4 players from the portal. Center, PF and 2 pgs. Demery is a CG, ball is a shooting guard and County is a freshman. We need a couple strong ball handlers. We have none on the team right now.

I'd reverse the order somewhat. Center, 2 PF, 1 Point Guard.

Yupp. Despite all of our wishes the reality is that 4 starters might already be penciled in for next year. Is there going to be a transfer PF that could elevate that starting lineup to a final four contender? Otherwise we’re making improvements on the margins ie backup PG and backup C.

Prob not. I love Diop but a potential lineup of Demary/Ball/Ross or Landrew/Diop/Reibe would have zero ball handling and passing and shot creation ability. Would be great defensively though.

If a player has it all they are a top 10 one and done NBA talent.

I don't think the staff would do that. Rolling with Ball, Stew, and Ross as starters would be a complete disaster and would signal a severe lack of NIL $$ lol. Those guys are bench pieces for a championship level team though

I didn’t imply stew should start (see 1 post up). everyone agrees we need a transfer PF there. I was asking will there be a boozer type PF available that could elevate the rest of the lineup? As I said I’m in believe it until I see it mode with Ball not starting and I think starting SF is either Landrew or Ross**

Agree. If he can back up Eric at center we won't need to sign a backup 5 man. We kind of get a 2 for 1 deal, we can use the NIL savings to sign another impact player.

Silas/ County/ Millender type transfer (or the Euro develops that we have)
Mullins/ Solo / Furphy
Ross/ Landrew / Furphy
Stew / Transfer
Reibe / Transfer

Hopefully the transfer 4 can also moonlight at as a backup 5. But I’ll take one of each if necessary.

He’s definitely a gambler on defense rather than a lockdown guy. Would need to play defense very differently under Hurley but he’s very quick and has great instincts.

Portal needs for our starting lineup: Power Forward, another CG creator like Castle/Jackson who plays ferocious defense and slashes to the hoop, and another starting caliber center.

Starting lineup should be Silas, CG Portal, Landrew, PF Portal, Reibe or Portal Center (whoever wins the battle).

Bench: Stewart, Ross, Ball (unless he plays defense, he has to move to the bench), backup PG, then whoever loses the starting battle between Reibe/portal center).

Reibe needs to put on 20lbs of muscle if he wants to start next year. I think he'll develop nicely, but we should definitely get another beefy big to compete for that starting spot.

And we need to get back to having 2 PG-like players on the court at all times. Silas can't be alone out there again next season. He needs a robin.

Where is narrative coming from that AJ was a "slasher to the hoop"? AJ was at best a limited offensive player. Saying you want another AJ is not different than saying you want Vaaks. Both were/are clearly better at one end of the floor than the other. I don't get this revisionist history stuff when looking for comps. TN and Cam were average athletes at best. Castle is the only guy that stands out as filling the mold that 75% of the people on this board want......and he was a one and done, top 5 draft pick.

As Superjohn said the other day, if it were easy to find these guys, this staff certainly would.

Jackson was like having a 2nd PG on the court and a star defender. He wasn't a scorer, but he was an insane passer and a lob threat. Also really good at those backdoor cuts which have seemingly vanished from our system after 2024. I would take him 100/100 times over a guy like Vaaks who is a one trick pony

Was actually referring to Nahiem Alleyne to St Johns and Pitino. But once a player portals- What can a coach do? The landscape has changed over the last few years in the portal. But early on it was not unusual to hear about schools to be communicating through friends/family/agents prior to portal announcements.

It can work with a center that can operate away from the basket. Riebe will probably have more freedom to do that next year.

Stew is not a 4. He’s 6’7” 215. That’s a body type of a 3. We may play him at the 4 when AK is on the bench but we need more size at the 4.

He does have a face up game/perimeter skills. From what I've seen watching his games he's more face up than back to the basket.

A rising 3 and D senior to match our PGs defensive ability

A former top 50 recruit as a senior who helped us win a lot of big games as a starter this year

A McD AA Center

A top 40 guard as a backup

A senior guard who averaged 14 PPG

A top 25 wing off the bench

Then whatever transfers is needed to fill out the bench. I’m not sure how that’s not enough talent to win with or how that’s anywhere close to a bubble team. That sounds overdramatic.

Stew is not a 4. He’s 6’7” 215. That’s a body type of a 3. We may play him at the 4 when AK is on the bench but we need more size at the 4.

According to ESPN he’s 5 less pounds than Karaban. But he’s also more athletic.
