It’s starting up again. Seen a lot of UConn fans clamoring for this guy already. Not sure I like the fit tbh.

CCSU Star Darin Smith Jr also announced yesterday. Averaged 20 points.

Also as a reminder. Let’s not get this thread locked, this is to discuss potential incoming transfers only.

The second any UConn player is mentioned, this will be locked.

Starting SF is covered by Ross and Landrew
Starting SG is covered by Ball or Mullins

Edit- we can mention UConn players in the context of them returning right ?

Here's an article about all the dates and rules for the transfer portal this year if you need a primer. Says elite players should command $2-$3 million from revenue sharing. If your budget is $8 million is it prudent to give one player that much? As we saw with Kentucky this year just giving out money is not always the way to winning.

4 position is huge in the portal. And we have $$$ to spend.
It's pretty ____ed up to talk about "expiring contracts" in the context of college basketball, but here we are.

And, yes, you're absolutely right.

This. Vaaks feels more like a nice to have luxury than a necessity. Seems almost a guarantee that our biggest splash will be an AK replacement at the 4. Vaaks is an odd fit as the roster stands now.

Let’s hire Bobby as an assistant since the vultures are circling around Luke and Kimani and he can bring Diop.

Not a fan of him tbh. I get what others see, but I can’t get behind a player who’s an absolute traffic cone on defense. Our iso defense is questionable as is

We can of course get Diop without hiring Bobby. There's no way we should want the brothers coaching together and it won't happen.

Isn't Hurley pretty adamant about avoiding other BE players in the portal? Maybe that personal "rule" for Danny doesn't apply when a coach departs, but I like the general idea of avoiding guys that played in the BE this year.

Vaaks is gonna be a highly sought after target. Not only for us either. Great Offensive players get the spotlight during tourney time. His performance at the end of his BET game had people salivating.
Let's not get too suckered in by the lower seeded p4 or mid major kid who goes on an Offensive tear. (i.e. half the guys on Miami-Ohio)

It's not fun to draft an O-Lineman in the NFL draft. Nor is it fun to scour the ranks for good defender/FT shooter. But that's what I want.

Newton came from East Carolina from the AAC so while not direct as we were in the Big East it would be similar since we played against them for a few years as part of the AAC.

But we need a 4 with both PFs eligibility ending. Not a 2.

Athletic 4 as a first piece would be where I'd use NIL first for incoming portal adds. AK graduation creates an obvious need. Might have been who Vaaks's teammates were but he seemed ball dominant in that PC offense. I'm sure his NIL ask will be a chunk of change.

We will have a lot of needs but yes a starting big time pf is the biggest one.

I’d take Vaaks in a heartbeat. Guy is a born shot maker. No one on PC played D so hard to say if he can or cannot be taught. But I’ll take an elite scorer/shotmaker ANY day of the week.

And we’ll find room for him

IMO we need someone to replace AK at the 4.
We need a 5 to split time with Reibe , preferably someone with a defensive , rim protection presence.
Lastly, someone to back up the 1 , preferably someone who can really handle a press

The funny part here is the PC board is looking at the wording saying he's "entering the portal" as different from saying that he's "leaving PC" and they're hoping he comes back.

Uhhh, the kid declared before the portal even opened and without having any clue who the new PC coach would be. His stock is high after a nice finish to the season and he's definitely going to upgrade his situation. Say bye bye, PeeCee.

I'm a Detroit Lions fan and the horde of us have had it with GM Aaron Glenn - always picks best available, not the needs of the team.

We don't need to stockpile SGs - we need to address the issues which will be zero Power Forwards, no backup PG, and if Rrezon cannot be even a ten minute backup for Reibe, we need to get another 5 above him.
