The best transfer classes last year were Kentucky and Arkansas because they didn’t have any players. Kinda easy to offer playing time. Similar with St. John’s this year who just has Ejiofor back.
Will it work? I dunno. And nobody really does. Collectively it’s a really good group of course, but none of the guys they brought in really scare me individually going in. Barney on HIMTM introduced an expression called the cheerleader effect where you see a group of cheerleaders and think “whoa!” - but then when you separate each one, meh. Sort of the case here. You have a guy who has missed 2 years in a row … and had gotten worse in his second year at PC before he was hurt. A “point guard” who shot 330 times and had 30 assists, a guy who was barely in the rotation for a 15-18 USC team, the fourth leading scorer for a 13-20 Arizona State team, and an athletic guy who can’t shoot and doesn’t really block shots or get steals either.
That said, they all have talent and they may all fit together and bring the best out of each other - but then again, they might not. None of those guys like to pass and I think they’ll miss Richmond and Smith’s ability to make their teammates better, but we’ll see. They certainly have potential and if it works, they’ll be tough. No doubt.
