Toughest Huskies

Toraino Walker. Scariest person I've ever seen in person; McMahon dining hall circa 1990.

Scary indeed. I remember UConn playing Georgetown in the 1990 Big East Tournament and the Huskies started a fast break. Toraino was trying to fill the left side but a Georgetown player grabbed him by the jersey to slow him down. Toraino turned and gave the guy a look that would have turned most people to stone. The guy let go of Toraino’s jersey and slowed his pursuit of #21 down the floor.

Cam, Boat, Bazz, Jake

As for guys who look tough/intimidating and you probably wouldn't want to get in a fight with we haven't had too many over the years. Only Toraino Walker, Jeff Adrien, and Ruslan Inyatkin really come to mind.
Love all 4 of these. Bazz refused to lose, Boat was the toughest little guy with ridiculous athleticism, Jake was beyond solid, and Cam is well, Cam. Freeman was another personal tough favorite.

Truth! Silas Demary carving his name right here in stone.
I love how he has games of 23 points and 15 assists. I'm guessing not many of our point guards have reached both of those single game totals. Maybe Marcus Williams?

Dyson
Saunders
Donny
Taliek Brown - I was not a huge Taliek fan, but he may have been the strongest PG we have ever had.
Henefeld
Josh Carlton

Dyson.. left a tooth at Depaul or marquette .tried to check back in at the next whistle

.-.
I Remember Dyson getting knocked to the floor face first, loosing a couple bloody teeth and return to the game. TOUGH AS NAILS
Super random, but I happened to meet former gonzaga guy Matt Bouldin (WCC POY back in '10) a while back and he was really cool to talk basketball with because he played ball with a ton of guys I watched in person back in school since we're around same age (saw zags gets smoked at uva when he was there so I gave him a hard time for that)

I of course told him in addition to uva I'm a huge uconn fan and he told me he's still got a voicemail from JC when he was being recruited to play here saved on his voicemail. He was really complementary to a ton of uconn guys but when I asked him about Dyson he said something along the lines of that dude was just scary to play against he was intense and tough as hell. Cementing my opinion of him as an all time uconn tough guy

Toraino
Big Rod
Lyman
Nadav…I mean he was in the military

Everyone saying Adrien is right, but no one is getting likes because everyone remembers him and Thabeet getting bullied by Dejuan Blair. We were ranked 1st in the nation when he had 22 pts, 23 boards against us and knocked us off, while Jeff and Hasheem looked rather soft... i hated that game.
But on the opposite end of that game that year was the destruction of the Cardinals at the Yuck center

.-.
Minlend was a punk. I still remember when he slapped Donnie Marshall in the face when the ref was handing Donnie the ball to inbound. The ref then gave both T's.
Maybe so, but he could rebound really well for his size

Answering first. Reading thread later...

Taliek Brown

Andre Jackson

Jeff Adrien

Caron Butler

Ca-a-a-ammm!!!

Jeff Adrien’s elbows might be the scariest attribute in UConn basketball.

You did not want to get in their way as an opposing player.

As a UConn fan for 4 and a half decades, I've seen lots of guys wear the UConn uniform. Sometimes, its not the superstars that captivate you, but the guys who are tough. Who are some of the toughest Huskies you remember?

I'll start with a couple of personal favorites, Lyman Depriest and Jeff Adrien. Looking forward to the responses.
We've shared the same 4.5 decades. The first real "Calhoun tough", I agree was Depriest. Chris Smith was a pretty tough Bridgeport kid.

But ..... Sellers for the Laettner head slam, while dirty, is still an all time tough moment. Not exactly tough love, either.

Rage on

.-.
I remember Rod Sellers not
taking any crap when Christian Laetner elbowed him and he pinned him to floor and beat crap out of him.

I also thought Chris Smith was pretty tough. Seemed like he played every game 30+ minutes every time for four years straight

I’m going to give a hat tip to Castle here. He put together one of the best defensive stretches we’ve ever seen in a Husky uniform on the way to the championship. Tough as nails, not a play off, and absolutely smothering the best offensive player on every possession.

.-.
Have to give a shout out to Tyrese Martin here and not just because of how tough it is to be a Brooklyn Net.

Rashad Anderson was mentally tough
I don't know if he was mentally tough so much as he had a shooters mentality. Calhoun said that could go 0 for 10 and be 100% confident that the next shot was going in.

And blame the rims.

Finally, I have to add Chuck Aleksinas because I hit him hard with a no look pass to the face during an open gym and he took it like a man. He even told me it was a great pass and he should have been ready for it, even though he couldn't open his eye for a little while
Chuck was a huge man and a super good guy. But on the court?
